For all my familiarity with Yugo Mausers, This is my first German and I am
woefully ignorant of their markings and meanings. I am familiar with the history of the Russian Capture 'refurbing' processes and conditions.
That's what called me specifically to this one. It appears, in my ignorance, to have suffered a minimum of disruption, to not be wholly a 'parts
gun.' Is that correct? In any case, thee German markings appear to be wholly intact and the only Russian marking one 'X' on the receiver ring. The
bore is excellent.
Beyond this, all I can do is invite comment.

Update-
Below is the rifle as it came home. I decided not to "strip and refinish" though some may argue I have done. Now it's probably neither fish nor foul, but it seemed the best course to me.
I cleaned the crud and surface layer of chipped and scratched shellac. I rubber a couple coats of oil into the stock and here it is...
It's a lot cleaner but hardly "looking like new." I am of two minds whether to leave it at that or to give it a layer of shellac as befits the average RC. But, I have to admit. i don't believe there was any shellac on it. The stuff came off to easily. Neither was there the usual tell tale globbing, streaking, and runs typical of the Mosins at least. Or was the shellac work on RC98s better? Back to how easily the crud came off. I think it was only crud over oil. I didn't work to hard at clearing the surface. I wasn't going for brite, only clean. Oh well. Nuff said.
