M91-30 need help with ID |

Hello everyone! I stopped by a local pawn shop the other day and a 91-30 or 2 caught my eye, so I went back today to pick up one. I had made up my mind on a
certain one but could not leave this one behind. I'm not sure what it is, but it was different than any I've ever seen. I'll try to post pics. It
has markings simular to F.L.P.Mi. (with the second character shorter than the first) and it has a notch milled in the left side of the receiver, cut with an
app 1" dia cutter on an app 30 deg angle about 1/4" in front of the stripper clip groove. I looked thru about 25-30 more that he had still in the
Russian crates and this was the only one like it. It's a 1935 Tula with a hex receiver and came with a sling, bayo, cleaning rod and accessories- bore is
not great but oh well. Thanks for any help.

Is the bolt matching?

I have never seen one with that kind of stamping on the receiver.
Good catch!!!! And I've never seen one with a thumbslot cut in the side. I think you got a rare/less common piece there!!

If I remember right that is an old german fire or police marking. The rifle somehow ended back up in Russian hands for refurb. Rare marking and a great find
. The really interesting part is the cut out on the left rear of the receiver. Looks like they modified the rifle for a lefty. Very interesting.

"Looks like they modified the rifle for a lefty. Very interesting."
That was my first impression as well but wouldn't there have been more modifications/cuts on the receiver and stock for such a thing, if it could be done at all? If someone has a left-handed Mosin/Nagant (or knows of a link to one) please, share some pics from which we can make comparisons? Eli

I'm fairly certain that is a slot cut for the thumb to shove rounds out of a clip into the magazine.

your rifle is so interesting that I posted a link over at gunboards too.
http://forums.gunboards.c...&posted=1#post855734 I was wrong. The cut was apparently to assist with loading from a charger. Very cool, first I have seen. |

Thanks again for the help and interest.

I have heard or read somewhere that the German captures sometimes received the treatment of cutting the left side of the receiver to allow for a charger
loading, that would explain the cut along with the markings

Never seen or heard of anything like that! Certainly intriguing for sure. Just finding something with the stamping it has is good enough but with that cut it
really interesting for sure! Congrats on a great eye to notice and pick that up! Bill
