I want to put one of those newfangled sight things on my Bushmaster. Of course I don't want to break the ole bank and know the sweetness of low price is
soon overwhelmed by the bitterness of low quality. Any hints? I've also seen pictures of those flip up rear sights what gives with those?

The 'flip up' rear sight is a back up sight so you are not without a sight if your optic dies. I put a cheap Bushnell holo-sight on one of my carbines
and it works very well.

Trijicon Reflex II, A.R.M.S. #15 Throw Lever Mount, co-aligns with iron sights.
Works for me......

Trijicon costs more than the EoTech.
I've got an EoTech. My next AR will have an Aimpoint (just to mix it up) and the next one gets an ACOG. EoTech and Aimpoint are close in price; ACOG is all sorts of expensive.... Budget knock offs of all three are made in China by manufacturers of varying quality. These can be found on GunBroker & eBay. Some are actually pretty decent. Now, the bargain is the Bushnell Holosight. Basically, it's an EoTech without the armor. You don't want to slam it around, but for non combat use, it is for all intents and purposes, an EoTech (same company makes them) Usually $75 to $200 cheaper than an EoTech. For example this EoTech is $379 http://www.opticsbestbuy.com/EOTech-Scope-511D1-Tactical-Holographic-Weapon-Sight.html?feed=Froogle This Holosight is $299 (and out of stock) http://www.opticsbestbuy.com/Bushnell-HOLOsight-Riflescope-Matte-Black-w-Illuminated-Holographic-Reticle-510023.html Fake EoTech-$55 http://cgi.ebay.com/Eotech-552-Style-sight-trijicon-acog-copy-551-557_W0QQitemZ220419627223QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item33520898d7&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50 It all depends on your need and your budget. If you can afford the best, EoTech, Aimpoint, Trijicon/ACOG, or Elcan. If you're on a budget? Bushnell If your cheap-Chinese knockoff. Life is the crummiest book I ever read, there isn't a hook; Just a lot of cheap shots, pictures to shock, and characters an amateur would never dream up... |

I have an Aimpoint ML2 w/ ARMS mount on my Rock River. Here's an old picture, I've since had it threaded for a flash hider.
I like the Aimpoint, but w/ a 4 MOA dot, shooting at over 300 yards is easier w/ the iron sights, even if it's just the ARMS rear sight on this carbine. |

I love my EOTech. Even got the new GG&G lense cover set up on it now.
Highpower, battery life in the AA battery equipped EO Tech is very very long, plus I have a KAC 600 buis just in case.

Bill, that's cool. It's just that I have rotten luck in general.....
On one trip out to the range, the batteries died in the Aimpoint on my S&W 586. No spares in the range bag of course, so no shooting that day.
Different trip, different range - chronographing some new loads, and the battery dies in my PACT chrono half way through the second string. No problem says I..... just pop in the spare battery I have in the range bag. (I learned from the previous Aimpoint incident.)
Still no chrono display..... ooops! The "fresh until" date on the spare battery package was l-o-n-g gone.
Like I said - just my luck in general.....
