My guess is that it is the field coil excitation control for a large generator set that varies the field current, thus the output of the generator.

We use them a lot in my field. It's a hemmorhoid electro-dessicator. I save the treatment for late paying patients. The treatment is not covered by
Medicare.

Allis-Chalmers Energy still exists, so I bet they have an archive that one could contact with a little digging around, and the info on the ID plate should be
enough to track it down. The Navy should have its own documentation around somewhere as well...
I have no idea though. |

Feild exciter for? Degauzing ? (anti-mine equipment).
That's just a guess. I never saw the control board, just the feild wiring. 1947 troop transport renamed the "T.V. State of Maine".
