Don't think I'm destroying any value on this common, inexpensive rifle. Also, the photo does not show the full extent of the finish damage, in case you are wondering why all the fuss over a couple of chips.

) and use it to remove any accumulation of gunk in there. Once you've
stripped it, restain it and refinish it with whatever you are comfortable with. Since it's a modern rifle the choice is really yours. But you won't
harm it at all. Just don't use any water-borne finishes on it sticking, instead, with petroleum or acohol based materials. You may even want to use
shellac as your final clear coat. Spray it, don't use a brush!
