The three Mosins I shot were a 1928 Hex Izzy 91/30 with pre-28
lettering, a 1942 Tula 91/30, and a 1943 Izzy based 91/59.
The '28 Izzy went 0/5. It was the first time I fired this gun since I bought it last week. I believe it would be an ex-Dragoon with the 91/30 site upgrade. The trigger on this seemed like I had to pull it a mile before it fired, almost like some old shotguns I have. Is there an adjustment to this? It's a nice gun I just have to go out over the weekend and try it from 25 yards to see where it is shooting.
The 91/59 also went 0/5. The trigger is great, but I just need to get a feel for aiming the gun. I will also be reshooting this one this weekend at closer range. I heard somewhere they were zeroed in at 300 yards, but I'm not sure that's true. I have one of David's reoil pads on it which worked well. The stock has been thinned down and I need to reshape the pad if I want it to fit flush.
The '42 Tula went 4/5 on the paper. The the virticle went from 3 high to 5 low but horizontally everything was within 1 1/2 inches of the line. The trigger on this is smooth like the improved 91/59 triggers. I don't know if it's the arsenal or just a later improvement but I love how this gun fires.
Finally I shot five rounds out of the '42 Tula at some "insurgent" soup cans- ones that were a bit out of date. Unfortunately due to a rise in the terrain they were shielded enough to survive the volley. Let's just say my yard has been well airrated. They will not be so lucky later this weekend. A month ago I splashed several combatant water cups with the Tula. I must have had an off night last night.
