2 Turks that won't fire |
Lead | |
|
I now have 2 Turks that will not fire, one is a 1940 M38 KKale and the other is a M1903 refurbed in 1935. The 03 is enven more interesting in that I have 5 of
these rifles and this particular one doesn't fire at all with it's bolt but only fires sometimes with the bolts out of my other M1903's. The Kkale
I have only 1 of and it won't fire at all, both guns only leave a small dimple on the primers but their firing pins appear to match others that I have or
have seen and the springs seem very strong. These bolts are very clean with no cosmo left in them at all. should I be expecting a headspace problem with
these 2 or do I have a spring and firing pin issue? I have been using Czech, Romainian and Yugo surplus ammo and have no other problems with this ammo in any
of my other 23 8mm Mausers, just these 2 particular Turks.

Check the firing pin protrusion from the bolt face with the bolt uncocked - it should be around 0.05 to 0.06". Problems here could be worn pin, dirt
inside bolt body or even the wrong pin. Pull the bolt apart and see have well the pin slides in the bolt.
If okay, try fitting a spare spring if you have one. My Turk 1903 had frequent mis-fires when I got it and it was the spring - you could easily see the 'dead' coils when the spring was taken out. I had a spare 98 spring and fitted that - note that I had to cut part of a coil turn off because it was slightly too long. Maybe the spring is binding somewhere? Failing that, it could be headspace - a guage is the best way to check this. |

I have a Turk that misfires every other shot. Wolf spring DID NOT fix that. Another bolt did however.
