I plan to use the sling with the rifle in vintage rifle competition and don't want to abuse a real one.
Or any place to buy a post war variant?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a repo K98k sling?

There's a fine gentleman over at gunboards.com that goes by the handle Skratch.
He has had some of the best reproduction slings for sale that I've ever got to handle. You can tell they are reproductions, but are made of excellent materials. With a little oil added to the leather, it's hard to tell them from an original until you get up close to it.

I have as of yet to see a repro that impresses me (and I'd love to change my mind). whatacountry.com has Israeli K98 slings (which are usually nearly
identical to the German ones) for $29 with a froshe. I've bought two and my first one is still my favorite. I have some Austrian ones I'll be putting
on ebay in a few weeks when my last group of froshes come in (from my secret source), but don't wait on me.

I like the ones I got from Landser Outfitters.
