"French 22lr trainer"
and
"30a 30-06"
I did some research and determined that the trainer must have been a MAS 45 and sure enough it was. Personally before yesterday I had never heard of the thing, but read that it was somewhat rare, and fairly accurate. Turns out this thing had never even been fired, was still slathered in cosmoline, and came with 3 mags. Perfect wood, 100% parkerizing, etc... Long story short picked it up for $100. Ran the cosmoline out of the barrel and went to the range, and boy the folks on here weren't lying when they said it was accurate. I set the target up at 50 yards, set the sights on the 50 yard mark and ran 3 clips through it from a rest. By goodness if this thing didn't put 8 inside the X and the remaining 7 of the 15 shots in the 10 ring. I have handled plenty of guns, but would not consider myself to be a marksman, certainly not with a peep sight. I have been converted. Only thing was it didn't like to feed the cheap hollowpoint ammo I was running through it. Seems like the blunt tip didn't want to run up the feed ramp. I have seen pics of ammo on this sight that had a sharper angle at the nose of the bullet, who makes this ?
As a side note the "30a 30-06" turned out to be a 1903-A3, Smith-Corona still in cosmoline, all numbers matching, retaining the original barrel, never rearsenalled. I bid up to $325 on it, made me sick to let it go for $350.
