I found some ammo I never knew I had, the markings read as follows A 80 7.7 R1 M3 Z.

I have some of it also. I bought mine at a gun show after every one was raving over it. It is supposedly made in South Africa and is only second choice behind
the Greek HXP for .303 British shooters that I know. I believe the 80 means it was loaded in 1980.

You have some of the Good Stuff, there. BTW, the primer compound is non-corrosive. |

This ammo is good stuff. I believe it IS corrosive so make sure you flush the bore with hot water after firing. Clean the bore thouroughly with bore cleaner.
After the bore is clean run a patch with gun oil through the bore. When you are ready to go shooting again run a dry patch through the bore to remove the oil.
I heard a few tears ago that PMP might resume production of this ammo. Does anyone have any updated info?

Definately non corrosive. We put around 60 rounds of it thru one of my #5's at our Scout shoot back in March and all I did was pull a boresnake through it
and 4 months of Georgia humidity later it is as shiny as it was when I got it.
Quality ammo, wish I had more than the 400 or so rounds left in the can.

I would also have to agree that it is non-corrosive. But I have never seen any documentation or black and white proof that they went to non-corrosive primers
and when it was done.
So there is always that tinyiest bit of doubt lingering in my mind. So I have gotten into the habit of overkill which is quite often and clean as if it were corrosive regardless of what it is, regardless of caliber and nationality when shooting ANY milsurp ammo. PERIOD! In over forty five years of playing with milsurps, I have never lost a rifle due to failure to clean after shooting corrosive ammo. Just the thought of picking up one of my rifles and heading to the range with it and looking down the bore finding it all rusty makes me sick to my stomach. It is a feeling I never want to experience. For the few extra seconds and small amount of effort it takes to flush out the corrosive salts, to me it is simply a non issue. Curt |
