Unfired British Enfield No.4 Mk2, Fazakerly factory, Irish Contract 1955 Pricing |
Lead | |
I have a British Enfield No.4 Mk 2 rifle that was manufactured at the Fazakerly factory in the U.K. back in 1955. This rifle chambers the .303 British
cartridge and all matching and completely original. There is a small import marking on the end of the barrel. The original finish rates about 99% overall with
very little sign of any use aside from some small marks on the beechwood stock. The mechanics appear to be in perfect working order and the bore is excellent.
I have never fired the rifle. Due to a wicked MRSA staph virus that I am fighting I must sell the rifle to help cover medical expenses. Does anyone have an
idea what is a fair asking price as I paid $750 1 1/2 years ago.

Ummm. Better post it on an auction site and hope for the best, I think. That price, in my area, is very "top-end".

I fine a "being unfired" rifle of that sort hard to swallow. Or does test firing not count.
If that is the case I have a Persian Mauser that is unfired. gave $250.00 fir it. shotout |

I would love to own one but $750 is WAY over my budget

Rifle of course has been proof fired, never said it was not. I took the rifle out of cosmoline and cleaned and oiled it. I did state that I had never fired
the rifle.
Ed thank you for your honesty. I checked the auctions and see what you mean. Found another with about 4 days to go for $380 and counting. Another for $750 but no bids yet. shotout you have a great sense of humor. |

I bet I have a twin to his "unfired" No.4 rifle. I bought mine about six years ago at a very small and unpublished gun show that they were trying to
get off the ground, but went about it all wrong and mainly failed to publicize it. Didn't even know about it until I drove by it one Saturday morning and
noticed the sign propped up on the sidewalk announcing it. So I had to stop and check it out. Small show with only about a dozen sellers and only one single
milsurp in the lot, and that was the rifle that came home with me. Light blonde stock and still in the grease. It had a No. 9 blade bayonet hanging off the
muzzle of it.
I was in an Enfield slump at the time, and getting more into Mausers, but I just could not let that beauty slip by. So I gladly gave the seller the $225 he was asking for it. I think the last time it was fired before I bought it was when it was proofed. Not a single mark on the bolt head, or anywhere to show it ever been fired after that. Curt |

Wish you the best of luck, Metaleer. I used to get a little "testy" about the "unfired" rifle thing but I understand what is intended. To
turn that "unfired" issue around, I'm not certain that I would want a truly "unfired" rifle; I'd prefer someone else do the
proofing.

I don't mean to get testy over the "unfired wording" just do not know how to word it differently. I apologize if I seem a little uptight but a
week and a half of hospital stay and 10 weeks of fighting this infection are getting to me with no end in sight. On a good note my wife and daughter are upset
for me even thinking of selling the rifle as it was a gift from them.
You know Ed if I feel better this weekend I'm going to shoot it and then can say how it does shoot. Might as well enjoy it as neither the gun or I am getting any younger. |

Metaleer: Good choice, my friend! "Unfired" shouldn't get any of us upset and it shouldn't get any of us a "testy" response either
- we ALL know what is meant. A hospital stay sure as hell can make anyone "piqued"; most MRSA infections will clear, for the most part. May linger
but should not be too troublesome. Worst part is in being labeled as "MRSA history" - the uninformed medical/nursing staff may go into a
"chinese fire drill" but need more education if they do so. That the rifle was a gift from your wife and daughter makes it imperative that you move
well beyond the idea of selling it, methinks. Good on ya!

I apologize, Like I said, just like to joke around some time.
Under stand how you are feeling. Had the same problem when I got home from loosing a Kidney. I do under stand what is meant by unfired terms. Hope you get to felling better. shotout

Shotout: Not to worry, we are all friends. Thank you for your kind words. Tried to shoot the rifle the last 3 days but nothing but heavy rain. Maybe
tomorrow. My curiosity is making me wonder how well it does shoot. My other rifle (stock military Longbranch) has a two grove barrel that shoots 3/4" at
100 yards from a rest. My other Enfield has been modified and am working on putting it back to stock. I have been told that the Irish contract rifles are
very accurate. Hoping for a clear day. Again thank you.

Los Angeles Price Check
|
Metaleer, At the most recent Orange County (CA) gun show, someone had for sale a '55 No 4 Mk2 in the wrap with an asking tag of $1000. Los Angeles prices
are always high, but for a wrapped '55, that may not be unreasonable. I'm afraid since you cleaned yours up to make it more presentable, you have
probably cost yourself much of the rifles' potential value (assuming you bought it wrapped). I don't think I have seen a near-new '55 No 4 Mk2
asking more than $500, even in this market. Don't take this as a final word, please do checkout the online auctions to see what others are getting.

I also have a 1955 Faz....

but I don't know if it is an Irish contract rifle. I forgot what to look for. My rifle has never been fired, except proof testing, that I know of. A
friend's dad bought the rifle. It has a bayonet and proper dated sling and receiver cover. I paid 250 for it about 2 years ago. I see them at the shows
in the 450 buck range. It is a beautiful rifle and it is hard not to shoot it. But, I have plenty of other Enfields to shoot.......good luck, and I hope you
get better......chris3

Sorry to rain on this but posting about a rifle you have for sale even if it is to try to figure a price is basically offering it up for sale on a forum that
doesn't allow sales. You can ask about price but offering it for sale violates the rules. If you want to sell it, see the WTS forums and do it by the
rules.
