How does an individual ship ammo nowadays? I lost my job and may be forced to sell some of my ammo to pay bills.
The local UPS driver says they cannot pick up ORM-D packages from a residence. I have bought ammo online and
some people are sending it through the US mail , which is a big no-no. Please advise the best way to ship legally.

I would check with the UPS Supervisor in your area on this. Seems that every UPS outlet has a different opinion regarding it.

You have to go to a hub, you can't go to a box store.
It is a P.I.T.A. to ship ammo if you are an individual.
The closest hub for me is 45 miles in any direction.....
I don't sell or trade ammo anymore unless it is a face to face when it is convenient for me.

Hopefully things won't get that bad, I just like to know my options.

I don't think you will have too much of a problem selling your ammo locally. Lots of folks still buying ammo.. I have my own gun shop and I don't ship ammo it is way too expensive ....

Way too many people think those places like The UPS Store and other shipping outlets are part of United Parcel Service. They are as much real UPS as the post office is! They are individually and privately owned businesses that simply serve as a hand-off point for UPS. And every single one of them goes by their own rules. We have three of them in this small town of about 8000 people. One of them in run by a liberal who is very anti-gun. If you get there when he is not working, things go fine. But he is there most of the time, and if anything relating to firearms is trying to be shipped, then it is "no way Jose". And he always insists on knowing what is in a package if you wrapped it. Like it was any of his business in the first place. I tried to ship some Garand en bloc clips to another guy once and he refused to take the package!

These places also jack up the prices to ship something drastically if you compare it to the UPS rate charts. For these reasons, I avoid those places like the plague anymore. Take it right to UPS at their hub, or get things set up where the driver will come and pick up for you. If you ship enough stuff, you may even qualify for a discount on your shipping if you have an account and account number with UPS.

And like I said earlier, contact the UPS supervisor in your area to get any potential problems ironed out before you attempt to ship anything.

I ordered some 9mm Largo ammo and 1 box of 7.62 NATO blanks from Sarco in Feb.

1st week of April I get the 9mm Largo ammo and 10 boxes of blanks.

I called them up,
they said it was their fault,and they would call UPS to pick up package for return.

I put 9 boxes of blanks in original box with return auth.#. UPS guy shows up 2 months
later after several phone calls and emails to Sarco. Guy would not take package because
it was marked ORM-D.

I am still waiting for Sarco to figure this one out. They said they have never had ammo returned.

I agree with you M1. The UPS stores are a joke. I sent back a K98 to SOG from one store once, everything went fine. Went to another location for another return to SOG a few months later and got no where. As soon as the girl behind the counter saw Southern Ohio GUN, she said OMG! Is this a gun? and looked at me like I was going to rob the place, and acted like the box was on fire.

She started ranting about how UPS doesn't ship guns. I told her "how do you think I got it??? She said "well who ever did it could have gotten in BIG BIG trouble.

There was no use trying to talk sense to a drooling lib idiot, so I drove to the hub, another 15 miles away.

It seems that Cabinetman has no problem scheduling a truck pick up of properly-marked ORM-D ammo shipments. The key may be in that he has set up his own account with UPS. The main-hub will definitely ship ammo, but individual truck drivers may be prone to "do their own thing", maybe because they just don't want to lift it. The UPS "stores" are a joke, and should be avoided.
