Re: Yugo crest variation study (Branko update) | ||
|
I note that mine appears to have the date of "23.XI.1943", and I have seen the date look the same on other examples. Is this simply a mis-struck "29.XI.1943" or was there a different "Republic Day" recognized at some point in time?

It's 29. XI 1943
There aren't two dates. I'd say it was just the result of a worn or damaged stamp. Diplomacy is the art of saying nice doggie until you can find a rock.

NotPC's script TRZ.5 24/47 Thanks to him for sharing his crest with us.
I must note that I think this is perhaps the crudest crest I have yet seen. That however is in keeping with my (as yet unproven) theory that the TRZ.5's were early done rifles. ![]() Diplomacy is the art of saying nice doggie until you can find a rock.

Got a new one. (I have been remiss on this.)
This one is courtesy of "Jimmy C at Gunboards.com" This is on a Bosnian "sniper" ("Bosnian" by the Fleur dis Lis carved in the stock) What caught my interest was that there appears to be some sort of staff or somesuch that if not drilled I expect would be supporting the star. Anybody else have one like this (minus the hole preferably... ![]() Thanks jimmy Here's a couple more long since granted me but forgotten to post ere now. Howdy and welcome to the forum!
The 5 torch crest was standard post
WWII crest up until 1963, I think it was. The details for this are in here somewhere. Anyhow our muasers will only have the 5 torch crests.
TR137 is a repair shop whose location is unknown. It is one of the less commonly found shop marks. Sorry but that's all I know. Again, welcome.

Let me add some | ||
I'm going to try turning this into a "study."Here are pictures I have gathered from various sources - M48 and M48a(b) only. Some of these are doubtless duplicates of what you have, but it's easier for me to upload them as a group than sort them. I'll upload M48 in this post, and 48a in a subsequent post M48: |

OOOHHHH...Very Nice...Welcome Armondo and Thank you for sharing! 'Nugs gonna like this one
What rifle is it, a 24/47 or a 98/48??

My camera is acting funny at the moment, wont focus on the crest or side markings. My crest looks very similar to ATH's and on the side of the rifle the
markings are in a very nice looking cursive/italic font and it says M24/27 T.R.L.5 I'll see if my pops can figure out the camera when he gets home and
I'll post pics then.

Alright my camera is still being difficult, so I am improvising here using a magnifying glass to get an alright picture...
these are the side markings:
Is this nice engraving normal on these rifles? I would have thought that for a military rifle it would have just been some plain jane font stamped on there. And here is the best picture of the crest I have, aparently I took it right when I got my rifle and didn't remember it 'till now

Howdy beatnikfink. I haven't heard those names in a rather long time.
Btw, Did you post earlier as "Ath"? The crests look identical.
Anyway, that engraving is standard for the TRZ.5 shop. There was an earlier version in block font but I have only seen two of those I think. The crests on them were crude but formed very like yours. You didn't say but is that on a 24/47? So far, I believe I have only seen that version crest on mod98 reworks. Frankly, I'm going to have to refer to my records to give more detail and unfortunately, it'll be some days before I have free time enough to do. But this may be fairly significant to my study. But in any case I would call this an early, 1947, reworked rifle. Im going to check my controls and see if I can bounce this into the forum proper for more exposure. Ok, here's three more. 24/47 and M98 - both have the stems or whatever you want to call them with the right ones crossing over the left ones. M48A is the
other way around.
