I recently purchased a pre-war (1911-1915 serial) C96 Broomhandle Mauser. I am planning on sending it to Redman for a reline, as the barrel is rather shot out.
In the meantime, I have been trying to figure out what parts are supposed to be blue, and which have turned blue over the years. From the pictures I have seen, it looks like the bolt, hammer, takedown latch, and the lock frame are all in the white. I have also seen some with the sight leaf in the white as well. That being said, I also have seen all sorts of alternations, including everything being blued. Is there any authortitive source on what is supposed to be what?
I'm not looking to refinish the pistol, or make it something its not supposed to be, but I would prefer to know so I dont accidently clean something too much. Thanks!
