Primers, WHEN?? |

Ok, we keep hearing that ammo and components will start becoming available soon. This is starting to get a little worrisome!! I haven't been able to
restock my supply of primers since before last Thanksgiving. I used to keep only one or two bricks of each size I used for safety reasons. When I started to
see a beginning of shortages last year I got a few extra bricks of each, just in case. Well it's been 7 months since I have seen a brick of primers, just
to go into one of the 2 GS's here and asking is too hear a outbreak of laughter. I look at the large mail order outlets like Midway, Grafs and Midsouth and
they have no primers at all available. How does the large suppliers think we can even purchase the other components to reload if the primers are not
available. We can use brass over again, we can cast bullets, we can use old cans of powder or substitute powders, but without PRIMERS it's impossible.
This happened on a smaller scale back around 93 or 94 but seemed like it was just a way for basic prices to go up. This seems to be an organized effort at some
level to push-out reloaders and to control the access to any ammo. Maybe to price ammo and the reloading components out of affordability!! Come on lets start
to ask some questions and get some answers on this.

Sinclair International has a pretty good article about primer availability - http://blog.sinclairintl....2/primer-availability-2/ and I see they have S&B primers
in stock as of the 16th.
Primers are trickling through the system, but most of the wholesalers have backorders running well into the fall or longer at current delivery rates - mostly going to retail establishments who then quickly sell out in their local area. Federal primers where available in some quantity (they lasted about a day) at the last Fort Walton Beach, FL gunshow in May. Going rate was $35/1000 while they lasted with speculators trying to get $40-$60/1000 on smaller lots. I just received a 5 case backorder of Winchester Large Rifle and Pistol primers after a 3 month backorder from one of my wholesale suppliers which will go to the Pensacola gun show this weekend. My supplier said not to expect small rifle/pistol primers for a few months yet at least. Powder availability is starting to improve and I saw Varget available for the 1st time since December this week. Bullet molds and die sets in popular calibers are still very much out of stock at my suppliers most of the time, making inventory management a challenge. I'm seeing lots of new reloaders looking to 'kit' up and the same time a lot of established reloaders are getting into bullet casting due to price/availability of jacketed bullets. Imported ammo seems to be staying in stock a bit longer the last month or so. J&G and AIM have had Wolf ammo available to some degree every couple of weeks in May and June and Graf's just posted S&B and FNM 7.62 Nato. - Virgil www.rangerfirearms.com |

Graf's retail store in St. Charles has lifted thier limit per person on all but small pistol primers, those are still 200 per customer.
LR, LP, & CCI 41's could be bought by the brick finally, as of Monday. CCI 34's were also to be had, RLM |

Primers are showing up once in a while here and I actually found and bought a 8 lb jug of Varget last week. Varget has been harder to get than primers! I
think the situation is easing up a bit. It's all about being in the store when the primers arrive. I walked into a shop and they had just unloaded a
shipment of primers and folks were buying them up and phoning friends. The shop owner said he has no idea when he will get any more - they just show up and
sell just as fast.
