I almost did that last summer/fall, but work and family seems to get in the way of me getting to travel much anymore.

Great string! I'm not much of a "mixer"; seldom if ever "get together" with anyone I ever meet on any board but I recognize many of the
"handles" and names remembered and I'm sad to know that some have passed on. I visit here almost every day of the week just to see what the
gentlemen have to say; not important to me that they talk of MNs or Finns as I just enjoy the opportunity to talk if I have something to say or to just listen
in if I don't. I've left some sites because the agenda was "I know more than you do" and I've left sites because they were just too
"technical" or too "topic specific" for me. I enjoy being here because this site comes as close to all-round friendly conversation about
lots of stuff as I've ever seen. And I've always felt welcome.

Wow this thread is like a trip down memory lane or something! Chuck was born an old timer! I have posted on many other boards over the years and I have seen
some come and go I guess too. It seems a shame that people take the personal likes and dislikes and use that as a base to form a new board? They act like
idiots making stupid rules that limit free speech and references thereby ensuring their own eventual demiss.
There are a lot of boards I use to post on but just got fed up with the constant flow of bad information and refusal to admit other boards exist and supplement their existence. Just an ego thing which never helps in any situation in life or online. Gunmaker it seems was so fed up with being the Finish Nazi and fall guy for way to many people it seems to have just poisoned him to Finns and the boards. The fact that we lost his knowledge and insight is something we all will miss and could use to gain respect of Milsurps and life in general. He is a tremendously talented man and at the same time remarkably and unswervingly sure of himself and I think that galls some people and offends their ego. Shame they couldn't see or listen to what he was saying. I for one miss him terribly and would love to just see one of his posts on finishes and integrity of them for old times sake! Wow this is far longer than I intended but then that is my nature I guess! Hmm Hmmm! Great thread I have enjoyed immensely the name and handles brought up by others and the memories I have of them! Shoot, it's taken me over 5 years to break 1000 here. Some of those guys could do that in a week! ![]() ![]()

I'm not as old as some of you........
Work, Family, recreation.....distractions do exist. Added to a lack of "some thing new" and I find myself just hanging around in the shaddows! all I need is: more time, more money, more imports...and cheaper ammo. I do keep coming back to this forum, and "American V twin" as my regulars...... Cheapdad |

Some of them might have changed their user names as I did. Dropped off the C& R for a few years. When I decided to get back in I couldn't remember my
sign in info and started new. I sure wish you could still find 4fers Turks for a $100.00. Now that I am back they are way up there in price. My last
purchase from Century was 5 M48s missing small parts for $250.00. When I got them they were all complete. Now when I want one they are $200.00 plus when one
can be found. There is an old saying that one should never get rid of a gun. Oh how I wish I had listened. When I look at my log book I just get sick.
WVChuck, you might remember helping me fix the muzzle end of my Turk stock. Cabinetman was always a great help. Learned about Ed's Red and Purple Power
on this site. Was once caught up in the RC K98 uproar and now all you see is threads on these RCs. I am now turning 67, am retired and really miss those
"old" board members. padavid is now padavid12.

I haven't seen "ragtop88" surface in a while...
Biff is alive and well. So is Dave B. I think they both monitor, but don't post often. Regards

I'm still alive. Military deployments and Police work keep me very busy. A lot of names don't show up any more. A lot of the C&R sellers have gone
away too. I have only been collecting since 2003 and now it's hard to find great deals on milsurps. Not like they were just a few years ago. Some of the
guys have literally passed away and that's a shame because they were very helpful and held a wealth of knowledge about collecting. I read more than I post
but I chime in now and again.

The one I remember is "yoteshooter", man that guy was a kick - Seemed he hit the MN scene hard and then flamed out? Not to be heard from again?I tried the last email address that I had for George but it bounced saying address unknown.

I guess I really am an "Old Timer" now. I retired from Fed Army civil service 4 years ago after retiring from the Active Army in 1986 and will start
drawing Social Security next month now I'm 62. I first joined Sep 01 after just reading and learning the basics for two years. I try not to post unless I
have something to say or can help with and answer. I am on the forum at least an hour every day going thru most of the forums. I still learn mucho from this
forum and am also trying to add to my collection. Agree that milsurp is slowing down without the tons of cheap M-44s, 91-59s, RC mausers and so many of the
other mass dumping of various South American, Swedes, and not forgeting the vast quanities of cheap ammo... made for everywhere.

I haven't seen ragtop88 (Tom) since I sold him a huge chunk of my Finn collection years ago. He was down in coastal SC last time I saw him. I hope he is
doing well.

I'm sure KYDoc is gone. Last I visited with him he was not doing well at all. He called me a couple of weeks after my last visit and told me to hurry down.
He wanted me to buy a few more of his things. I couldn't go that day but called him the next day with no answer...

I have been lurking about this website since around 1999, first un-registered , then registered to be PC. I even remember the Great Southern Arms Website. I
don't check in here very often now because there is very little new and exciting happening with imports . The new members will not remember how these
forums used to buzz when you could get M91's 91-30's and Turk Mausers for $39 and then they went up a little bit. The Turk Mauser website was ablaze.
Certain guns have dried up or gotten expensive, thanks in part to the dealers. And ammo has become pricey. Oh well, where did I put my suppositories?

Yeah I remember those days when you could buy a Turkish Mauser for $39, and buy a case of 8mm for around the same price. That was about 7 years ago, but it
feels like a lifetime ago! I'm just glad I started collecting at the right time because right now its painful to look at these high price and to see that
nobody offering anything new! |

Yeah, at my pay scale, I would never be able to recreate my considerable collection if I started today due to the increased prices and now-scarcity of a number
of previously-common C&R items. Like, what would a nice Turk Mauser go for nowadays if in fact you could find one? Collecting ceases to be fun when you
have to save for months to get something nice.
I also think that modern young people are not the collectors as we immediate post-war kids were. Too obsessed with computers and other electronic gadgets. "You can never overestimate the ignorance of the American voter." H.L. Mencken |
