Haven't been here but three and about 1/2 years. At first I was known as "SKEYED" Now I am "shotout". The reason for changing my handle has nothing to do with anyone or anything that happened to me on the forum. I was on dial up ever seance I have had my computer. I was having a lot of extra trouble and one day I went to sign on and could not. Had the same problem with a couple other sites. That is why I didn't contact Mr. Bill, The Forum Master. I just felt that if it was something wrong that didn't apply to the Forums Operation, why bother Bill. So I just changed every thing and got on again. One day I just couldn't log on. I used to have the coolest of names, "In The Ten Ring" but had to change it to get on again. At the time, "high speed cruise" seemed a perfect fit but not no longer: I never club anymore, I don't date girls 10 years younger than me, and I only exceed 55 mph in my car if I'm in a hurry. Then I do 60. hsc

Once I stopped, the acid reflux went away in about a month. Your situation may be similar, but to something else you are consuming, maybe tea like it was for me.

You have to take it everyday, and let it build up in your system. Keep the Tums & Rolaids handy for those ocassions when the re-flux overcomes the daily Prevacid treatment. They all make it worse. If you have a spare tire, work on that. If it occurs only at night, propping up the head of the bed also helps. I have some GERD and I just take Tums or the generic variety. It works well and fast, and also has calcium which is good for you anyway. The strongest OTC med would be omeprazole, Zantac and Pepcid and all those are fine too. Buy the cheapest.

I don't even take cough medicine with alcohol in it. I do hit the "chocolate bar" every now and then. I can give up my tea but not coffee. I use honey and lemon juice for cold bugs, drink it hot like coffee. I am taking the purple pill at present.sht

As Mountain Doctor points out, caffeine may be a problem. Chocolate may be a big offender - due to its fat content and other caffeine-like chemicals. Nicotine, in any oral form is a huge problem. Fatty foods (brats, fried foods, etc.) should be avoided also. Belly fat weighs a lot and promotes reflux at night and when bending over, especially after a large meal. Been "there" since 1983.
