I answered a local newspaper for sale add and bought this T53 on Monday..It's a Vietnam bring back.I know,I know, buy the gun not the story. It isn't
import marked and scratched on the butt around a bullet hole is written, Big Jess,21/6/67,Vietnam.The bullet passed through the side of the butt and came out
the top near the buttplate. It's all matching numbers with an unusual rear sight. Most on the other boards believe it to be a grenade launcher sight. The bore
is black and cruddy and I have it soaking with CLP.It's a Factory 26 dated 1960.BTW the piece added to the rear sight is numbered A8,the rifle serial is
A8985.It is milled and cut into the bottom of the rear sight.

Very interesting, my bringback was a Type 53 also dated 1960. I am no expert on Mosin Nagants but the grenade sight is a new one to me, also a grenade sight
on a carbine?

The Chinese were known to have used modified M1 Carbine grenade launchers on their Mosins. The sight makes that one a prize! Regards.

I would be a bit apprehensive about shooting a rifle grenade from a standing position with one of those. Probably sent the shooter back up across the 49th
parallel when they tried that!

I would say butt-stock on the ground or a sturdy tree or some such thing. I have seen one of those before and at the time had no idea what the extra piece was
for so I didn't buy it!
Groan Groan! One lives and learns I guess.
Nice piece for sure! Congrats! Bill

Great piece, congratulations and thanks for sharing. You might consider using an electric bore-cleaner, they're easy to make if you don't have one
already. Let us know how she shoots.
