florida hunt laws |

Hey all I'm new to the site and recently acquired an M44. I'm hoping to use it for hog/boar hunting here in Florida, but I'm a little confused
about the ammunition laws. It say's that the surplus ball ammo's are prohibited for deer hunting but say's nothing about it for hog hunting. Does
anyone here no whether it's the same for hog hunting or can I go ahead and use the surplus?
Thank much, Jay |

Welcome to the forums!
There's a hunting forum that might get you a more solid answer regarding the law. There are some places and people that are allowed to use full metal jacket ammunition for hunting, but they are the exception rather than the rule. Check on line with your division of natural resources too, or better yet, get a game guide to be 100% sure. IMO, get the soft point ammo and don't take a chance of running afoul with your gamewarden with a gray area concern such as being able to use FMJ ammo or not. More so, as a hunter, you owe it to the animal to put it down as quickly as possible. (not meant to be a lecture, just a comment regarding the use of soft point ammunition for hunting).

I would never consider using FMJ ammo for hunting, even if it was legal to do so. So box of hunting rounds may cost ten bucks or so. Big deal. You are not
going to be shooting them off like some of us do with the surplus ammo at the range. However, I definately would shoot a few of the hunting rounds at the range
to compare the POI they make on a target to the surplus stuff, so you can adjust your sights or aim according to the ammo you want to hunt with.
Most states allow FMJ only for trappers to put down an animal caught in a trap when they are after the hide. But for any game hunting, it is just too inhumane and you might wind up with a very mad wounded animal coming after you. Curt |
