You should have gotten a signed copy of your DD214 when you ETSed from the Army. That's the copy that you make copies of but you hang on to the original.
You can update your DD214 if you have documentation to correct mistakes or to prove that you earned additional medals or you served overseas. The corrected
copy is called a DD215.

Those DD214 copies look that way. I had to get copies of mine and you could barely read it. (stuff happens to originals sometimes, Eagle7). There were some
big chunks missing from my records. I kept requesting them and after getting copies of the same thing a number of times, Bingo! the long missing records showed
up in my mail box!
But I still have some (badly needed) medical records missing. I keep trying. S'all you can do. You won't get a file folder marked "201". Just a manila envelope with copies of whatever they have stuck in it. Diplomacy is the art of saying nice doggie until you can find a rock. Will Rogers |

DD 214 Information | ||

My husband had a similar issue regarding rounding up his DD214 copies and 201 file information.
We went to 201file.com and found most of what we were looking for. There is straight forward information that I had trouble finding elsewhere and the addresses and phone numbers of everything you need to know! |

militarywife,
Thanks for the info and welcome to the forum. I'm of the opinion the wives served our country right along with their husbands even though they weren't the ones who signed up. Thank you for your service...Jim |

I have four DD214s! Two from prior enlisted service (the first having to do with re-up)... and two from ACTIVE commissioned service. None of them seem to
match seamlessly - but there is a common thread to link them. The most important one is the original of the LAST one (I have originals of all four). I was
recalled from retirement and spent 2007 in Baghdad. The data for my last DD214 was generated in front of my eyes at the CRC Ft. Benning by a DA civilian. He
tried to SEND ME BACK TO ACTIVE DUTY AT FORT JACKSON! When they handed me my final copy... on the way out the door... it "astonished" me. All this
notwithstanding, when placed end-to-end, the four DD214s tell an accurate story. I am 61 years old. The blue ID card is my document. By the way, If you are
on AKO/DKO you can print copies of your records and keep your DEERS enrollment current. If you are retired, you can register on AKO/DKO

At my final out processing at McDill AFB in 2005, I was surprised of the effort and care the civilian took to get each and every element of my final DD214
correct. There were subject matter experts available from each branch to assist. My final document accurately sumarized my Active Duty in both the U.S. Army
and the Air Force. I entered service in August 1967 and left 31 July 2005, and I do not have one argument with the data on my DD214. I was made aware of two
decorations that I received from the Air Force for my service in Viet Nam, that I had never been made aware of. All in all it was one of the biggest surprises
in my 26+ years of service. I visited my Sergeant Major at my sign out at Hunter AAF and even he was amazed at the product. Sometimes computers are worth all
the fuss
