NcStar 4x32 PISTOL Scopes have worked well for me on all of my Mosin-Nagant Scout Mounts. However, keep in mind that "Your Mileage May Vary"! Some
folks like 'em; some folks hate 'em.
Good Shooting and God Bless!!

I put a 4x32 on my 1969 M39 since I didn't want to ruin the rifle value by drilling and tapping the receiver. I originally used a 2x7x32 NcStar but the POI
jumped around if I used a power setting above 3x. The 4x32 sighted in at 5 rounds in about a 1 1/4" circle at 100 yards and POI hasn't changed. I
think there is a post in here about problems with varible power NcStar scopes. A 4x32 scope should be fine deer hunting with a 54R caliber rifle unless your
planning on taking shots past 200 yards. I use Barnaul 203 gr. soft point ammo in M39 or 91/30 If I hunt with them. The Barnaul hunter brand is a .311 bullet
and the M39 prefers them. The Barnaul silver bear is a .310 bullet and the 91/30 prefers them.I bore sight the scopes in at 25 yards to get an idea of how well
the rifle will shoot and to get an idea of the POI at 100 yards, with 3 shot groups. I then move out to 100 yards and do the final adjustments with 5 shot
groups.I don't own any of the carbines but you may find that the long, thin barrel of the 91/30 may move some when it get's hot due to heat
distortion, causing your shot groups to widen out some. That should be no problem hunting and can be helped by padding the stock channel near the muzzle.
That's not the scope's fault,it's the nature of the rifle. The barrel of the M39 is thicker plus I float the barrels on those with shims in the
receiver area so it shoots basically the same hot or cold. When I hunt in wooded areas, all my shots have been from 15 to about 75 yards so even my M39's
with plain iron sights could be used. If you sight in at 100 yards be sure and recheck the POI at 25 yards or less so you'll know where it hits in case the
deer is close when you shoot. If I'm going to be hunting where I could have a long open field shot, I take my rem.700 and use the scope for long shots and
the see-thru iron sights for close up shots. The short, lighter M38/M44 would be a handy rifle for heavy wooded areas if you wanted a mil-surplus rifle for deer
hunting.
