8x57 JS hunting loads?
I'm interested in everybody's 8mm Mauser load. My standard load is 46 grains of IMR 4064 behind a 195-grain Hornady spire point. This load gives me 2500 fps. I have loaded 47 grains, but didn't notice a significant increase in velocity, so I backed off a grain for safety. I have heard that you can load safely up to 2650 fps, but I don't know how I feel about that in a nearly 70-year-old rifle. I don't feel safe shooting European factory loads at this velocity (but I do anyway). Besides, as I've said before, if it won't die with nearly 200 grains of copper and lead hitting it at 2500 fps, then it just don't need killin'!
