k98 stock numbers |

Hi Folks, I picked up my first K98 a couple weeks ago at a gun show. It's a S/237 1938. Everything... barrel, bolt, reciever, floor plate, magazine follower, barrel bands and screws match. All the waffenamps are there and there are no import marks. However the numbers on the stock have me puzzled. There are two numbers on the butt plate. The first number matches the rest of the gun,but another number has been neatly X'ed out. Both numbers also are stamped on the underside of the stock between the butt and the pistol grip. The second number is also found inside the stock in the barrel channel. The last two digits of the second number are on the end of the stock next to the bayonet lug. I guess what I like to know is,could this have been done at the arsenal or has someone restamped the butt plate and stock to make look as though its all matching? What do ya think? I'd say the over all cond. is about 90%. The bore is exc., it seems to be a great shooter. The guy was asking 700.00 I got it for 600.00 Either way I'm pretty happy with it!
