The Day of Infamy. I suppose you could argue that 9-11 has suceeded December 7, 1941 in our national consciousness as the "Day of Infamy"
though the consequences of 9-11 have been much less dramatic and traumatic (except for those on the front lines in the War on Terror). Of both these
"dastardly" acts the words attributed to various Frenchment on the execution of the duc d'Enghien apply:
"It was worse than a crime, it was a blunder!"

When I was 9 (in 1979), Dad was stationed at Pearl Harbor. One day we went to a picnic, and at the picnic I was introduced to an old fella. He was one of the very few men aboard Arizona on that fateful morning that survived. I couldn't tell you his name, or anything more than he was old (which to a 9 year old is anyone over 18 I'm sure). Being 9, the event didn't sink in, although obviously it has meant more to me as the years have gone by.

I suppose in some parts of the world, August 6, 1945 is a day of infamy.

Richard Bong, the highest US ace, was killed in an air crash on August 6, 1945, yes, that is a somewhat mournful day. As for the other August 6, 1945-that was the final payback for December 7, 1941.
