Re: What's the best way to shorten stocks? (reply) Personally, I'd cut it down to length and re-contour the fore end. In my mind it's a more "quality" fix and more "correct." But, that's just me. eb |

Re: Parallax: where men are men and the sheep are scared. (reply) Eric, my bro'. How you doing? I will look tomorrow for the product you recommend. If necessary I'll bead-blast the durn thing. Just kidding. I think I can restore the metal to a patinated finish with speckling and pitting. The wood is in fairly good ... |

Re: Parallax: where men are men and the sheep are scared. (reply) Yo, Dave! You might try this before the steel wool. While others have good luck with steel wool, I avoid it like the plague. I think I may have mentioned this before in another thread, but if you go to your local super market, they will have ... |

Re: Parallax: where men are men and the sheep are scared. (reply) Thanks, Chief. I hope when the witch-hunters catch me I can be burned alongside someone like you. I am going to use the methods you describe and have done so before. I believe I can improve the condition of this specimen without making it seem ... |

suggestion (reply) Totally dis-assemble. Clean all that powdery looking crap off of it with a toothbrush and WD 40, which has penetrating quality. Let the WD 40 soak in first. Wipe clean. Then, cover the parts with some oil - gun oil OK, but it isn't critical. Then lightly ... |

Of Sheep and Men (reply) I just bought a 1955 Ford Crown Victoria with the Landau roof and classic black and pink colors. Most of you won't know what this is unless you're in a geriatric way. The problem is that the paint job is horrible, there is rust and dents, holes all over ... |

Re: What's the best way to shorten stocks? (reply) Cut out a section of the forearm with the area at and above the lower barrelband as the splice point. In that way you can rejoin the two sections of wood where they will be hidden by the barrel band. The splice can be fixed in the same manner dufflebag ... |

What's the best way to shorten stocks? (topic) Hey, I bought two 19" Steyr 1912 barrelled receivers from Smokepole50 (advertising for him here as he has many, many left) and want to get them into some decent stocks. Hard to find original lengths so I may shorten a Turk 93 or a VZ 24. What's the ... |

Tom's 3&1 Wax (reply) If you just want to dull down the shine you can apply a couple of coats of Tom's 3&1 wax. It will also waterproof your stock. I call it Gunny paste. It's good stuff you can buy it here. www.thegunstockdoctor.com Regards, Mjay |

Re: Help: Cracked Swedish Ljungman handguard (reply) Hello Curmudgeon. Glad you spoke up. NO! By no means should you wet that handguard for your Ljungman in water. That thing would twist bend like a pretzel in no time. To remove the old yellow glue, grab a heat gun and just work the excess goo off ... |

Help: Cracked Swedish Ljungman handguard (topic) I have a Swedish Ljungman with a handguard crack just forward of the front band where the gas tube passes under the hand guard. I think this is a very common place to have a crack. The crack was previously glued and the repair separated. It looks like ... |

Re: Swede M96 with cracked stock-HOW TO FIX? (reply) Oooooooowwwwwwww.......that's a bad thing the US Government carrier did to that rifle. Did the shipper insure it?? If they did, you have a very legitimate claim. On the upside, the damage can be repaired easily enough. Only CA will be required, ... |

Swede M96 with cracked stock-HOW TO FIX? (topic) I recently received a beautiful Swedish M1896 Mauser with the "SA" stamp. The stock is beautiful and it matches the receiver. So it is the original stock. The only problem is that the stock cracked by the bayonet lug area enroute to my house thru USPS. ... |

Re: Slow Bake Method for Cosmoline removal (reply) Slow, steady heat is one good way to get the cosmo out, especially in the Winter when the sun can't do it as effectively. You can put kitty litter in the tube, too, to help absorb the debris. Just shake it regularly to help expose more clean litter to ... |

Slow Bake Method for Cosmoline removal (topic) Read about this method of removal of cosmoline, using a "slow bake" method to "melt off" the grease. This is my version of the cosmo oven. I ran down to Wally World and bought a Sunbeam ceramic heater for $18, then to the local Home Depot and got some ... |

Re: Fiebling's Color on Birch (reply) The fabric dye will most probably fade but the Behlen (or any other UL fixed dye) will not fade anytime soon. It's not expensive and is available. You won't have to dye it again unless you leave it in your truck in the rifle rack in the rear window LOL ... |

Re: Fiebling's Color on Birch (reply) Rome, Thanks for your help. Just so I understand this correctly since Fiebling's is not UL stabilized I will have to keep reapplying the stain for it to keep its color? Since the Behlen stains are UL stabilized I may just invest in those to work on ... |

Re: Fiebling's Color on Birch (reply) I'm thinnin.....I'm thinnin! LOL OK. This is actually an easy answer. Most older style dyes are nortorious for not being UL resistant. The ones I've recommended here, however, (Behlen) are UL stablized. Ultra Violet light will fade dyes if they ... |
