"New" Type 38 Carbine (topic)
Just picked up another Arisaka and thought I'd share.  Looks like a series 4 Nagoya--stamps are a bit dinged up and I need to find my book to make sure.  Stock has seen it's better days as well, but, overall, is intact and serviceable....

Highest quality manufacturer of Type 99s? (topic)
Hi guys, I recently picked up a late-war Type 99 by Tokyo Juki Kogyo, and have to say I am impressed by the bright/high-quality bluing on this rifle (despite the fact that it is a transitional late gun).  Is this typical for this...

Don't forget e-bay. Greed makes people destroy { as in, turn into parts } historic collectables there all the time and you might find what you need there.

Type 38 (topic)
Hi all I just picked up a Series 22 Koishikawa from a gunshow this weekend, and I was wondering if anyone can explain/decipher the red markings on the buttstock? Also, the Mum has been removed, but the bluing on the receiver looks...

If you can post or end me a photo of the markings on the left side of the receiver, I can ID the rifle for you. Gregg

Re: Need info about my Arisaka (reply)
People that are into Japanese rifles usually refer to the later modifications of the T99 as "transitional" models rather than 'last ditch". I think the true last ditch guns were crude single shots with cast iron receivers, and the...

Need info about my Arisaka (topic)
I have a type 99 and it has the mum still on the breach but no other markings are there. there is a serial # on the side. Also, the front sight does not have the ears, is this typical of the "last ditch" series?

Re: Type 99 and Nambu (reply)
As I expected, the bolt is not original to that rifle. Still the rifle should be safe to fire, as the Japanese contrary to common opinion, did have fairly tight manufacturing tolerances. Looks like you are missing one of the wood...

The Type 99 is a series 7, by the Toriimatsu factory under the supervision of the Nagoya Arsenal, I own it's sister, SN 24255. The only minuses I see is the ground Mum, the missing cleaning rod and the bolt assembly in your rifle is...

Re: Type 99 stock marking ID (reply)
It is an inspection stamp for the stock. All Japanese Arisaka rifles have it, or at least should have it. It is a easy way to determine if the stock has been sanded. If it is missing, the stock has been messed with. Gregg
