Re: Is this gun worth keeping? (reply) You know.....that's an interesting thing. Build a rifle with a new 8x57 barrel (say Shilen) and build one with a new 6.5x55 barrel and do an accuracy comparison. hsc |

Re: Neat old Turk Bayonets (reply) Lookout Zee, it sounds suspiciously like that "Mil-Surpin' Frog" may be plotting to show up on your doorstep sometime around T-day!?!? Do WV frogs exhibit feeding based migratory behavior? |

Re: Neat old Turk Bayonets (reply) Zeebill saw these at an auction and called me about them. I said grab them if they don't go past X amount, they didn't, so he did and brought them down when he stopped by for a visit last Friday/Saturday. Of course, I found the Nagant cleaning rod he ... |

Re: Neat old Turk Bayonets (reply) I believe the thinner bladed bayonet is a Model 1903 bayonet shortened in 1935, and the somewhat wider bladed bayonet is a Model 1890 bayonet, likewise shortened in 1935. You're lucky, most of the bayonets that were cut down in 1913 and 1935 had the ... |

Re: Neat old Turk Bayonets (reply) I wonder if the "blade" has been cut down as well? I've been looking for a bayonet over here for my 1903 (can't find any, except photos and diagrams) and thats what the handle looks like but the blades are much longer. |

Re: Neat old Turk Bayonets (reply) I've got one like the one on top, except the hooked-quillion appears to have been cut off. What rifle models were these "skinny" bayonets first used on? |

Neat old Turk Bayonets (topic) My buddy Zeebill picked these up for me last week and delivered them yesterday evening when gracing our house with a visit. The scabbards are beat to death, but the blades have some neat/interesting scribblies on them: |

Re: Price Check on Turked 1888 Gew (reply) For firearms in this price range "are you happy?" is all that matters. Worrying about paying 10% too much or such is foolishness. The $20 won't even buy enough gas to drive to the next city over to shop and compare prices. Now if buying a new car or such ... |

Turked 1888 Gew (reply) Well I bought her today so I'll post pictures in 10 days when the state says I can take her home. I paid $200.00 for her, not sure if that's good or bad but I guess it doesn't matter I'm happy. |

Turked 1888 Gew Price Check Update (reply) Well I think I'll try to add her to my collection. The bayonet is a good match for a 1916 Spanish Mauser I have... I'll post pictures if I acquire the rifle? Thanks for all comments. |

Re: Price Check on Turked 1888 Gew (reply) Like all of the MILSURP that has come into the US, once they are in private hands condition frequently changes dramatically from misunderstanding of how they work and general abuse (including poor cleaning). Of the GEW 88/05/35 rifles that came in, I ... |

Re: Price Check on Turked 1888 Gew (reply) I'm no expert on the Turk Mausers and not trying to give any advice on them, but I saw one at the pawn shop for $149. It was stamped 1937 on receiver and sn's matched, wood in good shape and the bore was dark but might clean up. I've been given it a lot ... |

Re: Price Check on Turked 1888 Gew (reply) The reworked GEW 88 series started in 1935 was to bring the GEW 88 as close to the Turk standard configuration as possible. As such the action was the major part reused, mated with a new barrel, wood and a wide variety of fittings often salvaged fron ... |

Turked 1888 Gew Price Check Update (reply) Thank you, Et2ss, The Turk date on the receiver is 1937. The cut in the receiver for the bullet is smaller than the Turk Mauser's I own, its less than a 1/4". These is no S anywhere? It is modified for stripper clip. The bayonet is a wooden ... |

Re: Price Check on Turked 1888 Gew (reply) I think you are looking at an 88/14/38 (or 88/05/38 or 88/05/14/38 or whatever they are really called . )Rebarreled & restocked Gew88. This should have modifications for stripper clip loading |
