Dear Turkophiles and Turkomaniacs...
I have just settled down to reveiw all the data ( 38 pages) in the Sticky, and have got up to Page 14....I am compiling a master list of all the Serials ## that members have kindly sent in so far since I started the Survey.
There has been a break in the years 2009-2011, due to my heart problems (not replying to Posters with questions) but this year, I hope to clear all the entries and finish (so to speak) the Job.
MY major request is for ANY M1890 design Turk rifles converted to 7,9mm in 1929 or 1930...I have ONE serial, maybe two...but the rifles could be M1893s, not M1890s....
Out of over 200,000 M1890s on hand before WW I, some at least would have survived into the 1930s???
And even if the Survey will have a "Re-statement" after this particular overhaul, it does not die there....More numbers will turn up as more collectors buy Turks and record them...after all, the Turkish Gov't sold over 1,000,000 Rifles between 1970s and 1990s.
Please forward all info direct to the Sticky; it is easier for me to follow-up there, than at my private Email. And give as much detail as possible...I have already found anomalies due to incomplete info.
Thanks to all over the past 10 years,
best regards,
Doc AV

Doc's original message posting of this survey...
Dear all Turkophiles,
The re-ignited interest in Turk Short Rifles and serializing (M46 Post) urges me to call for some serial Number data from all interested members and Visitors.
Send the Following Details to Doc AV
< av_ballistics@hotmail.com>
Rifle Date: Anything from 1930 to 1960.
Rifle Marking: Describe, transcribe detail of marking on receiver ring; for example: ASFA ANKARA 1934, etc.
Rifle Serial: Number on receiver Bridge, barrel, receiver Ring;
Use xx for last two digits only ( numbers run from 1 in most cases)
Rifle Type: M1903/30 ( Humped clip guide, winged bolt stop)
marked ASFA Ankara
"M38" ( K'kale ) Normal Clip Guide, normal Bolt stop
lever, bolt equals M98 Length; "B" and "S" markings
on bolt and parts. Also note "double numbering"
Gew 88/35 new barrel, No jacket,
scrubbed receiver, 1937-39 dates
M1893/35 with cutoff box/without cutoff box.
Gew98 Scrubbed-1940s dates
Kar98a ("M46") Short Rifle
"ATF" (1950s date)
M1903/38 Short Rifles (not kar98a derived ie, with
Large rec. Ring)
Anything else of note.( added hump clip guide
(Serbian M1910?)/ Enfield-Mauser conversion/
Carbine versions of any above rifles (barrel less
than 22 inches)
Getting the detail direct on E-mail does not clutter up the Board, and maintains anonymity, it also allows me to ask direct questions to the owners/senders without broadcasting it to the world at large.
Please include all the details requested, as the combination Date -Model-Markings-Serials-other marks will set the item in its proper context to make reliable deductions on the history and time lines of various Turk rifles.
As I get numbers collated, I will report my findings back to the Board.
Thanks all,
Regards,
Doc AV
