Gas actually hit $3.99 and 9/10ths a gallon earlier this week on Tuesday then back down to $3.95 and 9/10ths later in the week. If it keeps up like this I will
put air in the bike tires later this weekend. Only good thing about this is I can still function test rifles and stuff in the driveway. I am about 10 miles or
so from the range so that is quite close. Motorcycle is starting to look better all the time around here. We will be all hard pressed to make trips to shoot if
this keeps getting worse which is what I foresee unfortunately. I just talked to a guy last Monday who quit his job because he couldn't afford the gas and
was better off going on unemployment and welfare! This is not the kind of world I want my kids to grow up in and somebody better make some moves and dang soon
or chaos will break out. Bad Day at Bedrock! Bill

shooting on June 17 | ||
|
Well, gas in Webster county is at 4.09 this week. What kind I say????? Europe is paying 8 and 9 $ per gallon,,,, but that is another story.
If you would like to join me at Kanawha State Forrest near Charleston around 3 of 4 oclock on June 17, Tuesday.... I will be there with a friend doing some shooting. Let's not let the current economic situation kill our community events. Let's keep dreaming about getting together..... perhaps not as often. Let's get together. Pete |

Andrew and I are still here ! Just the infamous gas prices and med bills are killing our budget faster than a maDeuce ! New glasses alone have set me back $650
this month alone! At least it'll save me some on ammo , I can see the targets now! LOL . It may be a few months before we recover from the financial
setbacks but we will do all we can to make any shoot that comes up. We miss the fun and commradery.
We've got a h#!! of a good group of friends to enjoy and miss the shoots. Hope to get together with y'all soon. George

Gas Pains! | ||
|
I haven't been to a gun show in a month or more, haven't done but one Civil War event, have not even shot in awhile, and gas is now hovering at $3.99
and 9/10ths. I filled up everything for the summer yesterday, tractor and weed whacker gas etc. Even filled the truck up but plan to go nowhere this weekend.
Last weekend I broke out of here and went to beautiful downtown Grantsville for the Wood festival and then to Flatwoods for Blue Grass Fix. That is the most
travel I have done in almost 2 months! When my gas bill overwhelms my food bill I slow down real quick! I see no end and only higher prices in store for us and
I figure we will all be staying closer to home and trying to put many stops into each trip we take in the future. Like yesterdays downtown trip was haircut,
parts for chainsaw, lunch, bank, gas station, and home for the day all within a 5 mile trip. This is going to kill the vacation market and much more in our
economy before it is all settled down and stabilizes. Fixed income people like myself have to figure that their free and easy life is going to be controlled
highly by gas and live accordingly the way I see it. We may indeed have a few occasions when we can get together and shoot but I am very much afraid it is
going to be controlled highly by cost. Crying shame in my eyes but part of life I guess. Bill

I topped off the jeep yesterday and hope to keep it parked until at least the end of the month.
My summer break is going to be extremely short this year, I report back the 25th for training sessions, the students start back Aug.5! I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to break loose and do at least one fun thing this summer besides mow, weed-eat, paint & do general "gopher" work for my folks. It's finding that right time when I'm mentally ready to go shoot, the weather isn't set to full "miserable humid" and the grass is all cut back, no one is sick or needs stuff taken care of, etc. Maybe I need to set a range up on the mountain, out of everyone's noise/irritation range and just shoot back there and get the wildlife all stirred up?

Gas has me by the you know whats! | ||

Dang where will it stop? We are up to 4.09 now for gas around town now! I have not been to the range in over a month due to rain, gas, and time to go. I really
don't like what is happening here. I have actually talked to several people in the shop who have quit their jobs because they can not afford the gas to get
there. They are looking local and on unemployment and subsistence until they find something and pawning all kinds of stuff to make ends meet. We need a free
thinker who will find a way to go around the Washington business as usual politics and make this country work again I am afraid none of them we have to choose
from are in anyway the answer.
I would love to see another Harry Truman pop-up and run but he isn't out there. I need to get to the range with several new rifle but I just have so much other stuff to do I don't know where to turn. I just finished up a nice GI-duffel cut K98 that I would love to put a few rounds through to help put some shine in the bore. Maybe if this rain stops next week I will try and hit the range. Hope all are well and trying to figure ways around the problems of shooting today. Bill

Who would want to try to gather for a shoot before the end of July?

We can go to the range where they had an incident last week.

The "incident" was the murder of one of my colleagues and shooting buddies, Mark McCalla. We were to go shooting after a meeting on the Tuesday
before he died, but something came up for him. It's been a real bummer for all of us Preacher types who knew him. I invited him to both of our Cornstalk
shoots but he was not able to make them. It's a sad state of affairs all the way around.
I wouldn't mind meeting in Wayne County at Beech....... My late July is really tight with two trips planned. It will just depend on what day yall want to do it. Pete |

Pete, I was wondering if you knew that fellow or not. It sure created an uproar in the region.
I wasn't making fun or light of the situation in my above post. I am sorry for the loss his family and friends are and will be experiencing. I hope justice is served swift and severe on those that committed that terrible crime. I go back to work at the end of July, so a weekend to vent frustrations would be great. They are starting on an even newer, more improved curriculum format to make us teach more effectively and make the kids smarter. Do you all want to try Beechfork? Sometime in July? They have a beautiful campground just a few miles away from the range area. Pete, if you read this, send me an e-mail.

I wonder if we should go back to meeting twice a year and stick to the date of the shoot that is set, come heck or high water in order to at least keep the
spirit of the event alive, if not the frequency of events?
If anyone wants to meet up at the Beech Fork Range on July 19, let me know. The 26th is out, I've been resheduled to do other events on that date. 27th is open, as well as the 20th.

I like the twice a year date idea.... that we would set in advance so we could save the date. I am sorry I could not make any of the July suggestions. Been
gone alot in the last month. Looking forward to seeing you guys again. Let's have a fall shoot. Any dates open? September 13 and 20 are currently open for
me.

20th sounds pretty good here too.
I should be settled into my schedule at work by then and need to vent with some ammo (at the range!!) Sumboddy pick a spot.

I and maybe we will be there........ I would ask for a moment of prayer before we begin..... it is hallow ground as my friend Mark McCalla was killed at that
shelter in June.

No objection to that at all Pete.
Glad you'll be there. It's hard to find if you come in from Route 10 and then over. Heck it's hard to find from the Wayne end as well. It's not well marked and the sign is about the size of a shoebox lid, right at the turn!
