Hadn't shot the Swiss 1911 for 35 years because we had no ammo. One Christmas, found ammo for the 1911 mail-order from 2 places within 10 miles of my Dad's old house (Aim and SOG). Is it just me, or is mail-order ammo habit-forming?

Well, some folks like Generous Motors, some like SloPar, and some are just Found On Road Dead, but I like to be a little different. I'm an AMC Man! Have been ever since I owned my 1968 Rambler Rebel 232 I-6 2-bbl. 3-speed auto that I could smoke Mustangs in at the stoplight. Loved that car.
Also, because my name is Bob and I'm in St. Louis. |

Re: Question about your name

I came up with my name because of the fact that I have hunted mainly with Mossbergs most of my life, The 22 part came because Just plain old Mossberg was taken, so I added the 22 after my dad's old .22 Mossberg 152

Gringo Loko |
Re: Question about your name

Gringo was taken, so was Gringo Loco, so I had to misspell it gringoloko to get the name. I don't know when I became fascinated with being a gringo, might have been a few years back when I lived in a house full of Mexicans, and I was the only gringo.

Back in the '90s sometime, between about '94 and '96 I'd guess, I joined the old Shooters forum. I saw everybody else was using some kind of shooting-related "handle," so I tried a few and the first one I came up with that got accepted was "Ricochet." I've kept that and use it on most boards I get on (nowadays, that's mostly guitar boards), and OldIronMan's one I've used when Ricochet was already taken. I like to fix up and tinker with old stationary engines, cars, motorcycles, vacuum tube electronic devices, and of course, guns. Old iron.
As for my sig line, it's from Proverbs 17:22. I work as a medical doctor, as med school faculty for the last 19 years, and I believe it's very true. "A cheerful heart is good medicine."

How I got mine? | ||

I was sitting at my computer and trying to come up with a handle. I looked down at my desk and had a hotel confirmation from Embussee Suites Hotels. So, comes the user name "Embussee".

Once upon a time...I was trying to get on Ebay to bid on - gun stuff, what else? - the INFERNAL MACHINE kept on askin' for a sign-on name. Of course, every one that I could come up with already taken. So, after 15-20 (minutes, hours, who knows?) I picked my favorite cartridge - the 45-70 - which is a real "BOOMER". Hoakey, but it works.

Re: How I got mine? | ||

Mine is a combination of part of my last name and "K9s"...which refers to the fact that my wife loves dogs and raises and breeds German Shepherds.

I'd've looked at that and read "Cool Canines."

Oh, I do love German Shepherds! I had a mighty fine one when I was a teenager. I sneak over to a nearby body shop now and then to visit "Bear," the big black G.S. "guard dog" there.
The picture on your wife's page resembles my old "Colonel," but he had some silver on him as well. Beautiful dog. The guys at the body shop have a photo on the wall of a Shepherd they once had, who looks a lot like mine. "A cheerful heart is good medicine."

Flick1059 |
Re: How I got mine? | ||
|
The name Flick was borrowed from the main character in the movie, A Bug's Life. I bought the movie for my two daughters, who loved it. One time I watched it with them and was floored by the underlying message about common folks organizing to resist tyranny. Being in the militia, this really resonated with me.
The 1059 is a designation taken from the National Militia Standards (www.americanminuteman.net....php?f=39) denoting my location. |

Palimino Stripe |
Re: How I got mine? | ||
|
I decided for my 100th post I'll share the meaning of my name...
For starters- I pronounce it "Puh-lim-uh-no" (take a wild guess on "stripe") The background: Well, it all started many years ago when I was a young mopar enthusiast (I still am by the way Turns out what I liked most about that car was the tail lights and 'rear' section to that car. Just below the trunk there's a bunch of vertical lines that I didn't know how to describe. So one day I just coined the term 'Palimino' to describe the 'vertical stripes' on the back. (Get it?) Why did I pick the word 'palimino'? I have no clue- it just came to me. And I liked the sound of it, so it's been my alternate-name ever since. -Palimino When in Rome, do as the Romanians |

The 1968 Dodge Coronet R/T was one of my favorites too, but I ended up buying a 1968 Dodge Dart for my first car.
These monikers (usernames) continue to be quite interesting. Most of us probably had the "deer in the headlights" look the first time the moniker issue came up. I know I did. Luckily, I can usually am able to use my moniker at most sites as it hadn't been taken yet. ![]() |
