My screenname is one I've used for years on various other forums, though it doesn't really mean anything as far as I'm concerned. It just popped in my head and stuck. I've always had a love for aviation, so that's where "baron" is derived from. Necro comes from...who knows? Necromancer, I guess...

Palimino Stripe,
Quote:I've always thought it came from the breed horse, you know, like Roy Roger's horse, "Trigger". Granted it's spelled Palomino and pronounced Pal-o-MEE-no. But it's great to be creative. I have been known to make up a few "words" myself. Diplomacy is the art of saying nice doggie until you can find a rock.

Yeah- funny thing is I didn't even know there was a breed of horse similar sounding to that until at least a year later when someone told me! Maybe horses were in my subconscious thought when I came up with that so long ago
Even funnier was, no more than a year ago at my job, a customer came up and bought her items, paid with a credit card, and when she signed the receipt- her last name was Palimino! Spelled exatly the same! maybe I was thinking of her -Palimino |

Well back home I used to hang out at a place that was called "That One Place"(not kidding, that was the name of it) and there were 4 or 5 guys named Bill, since I grew up in the town of Byron, IL they called me Byron Bill, or Byron for short most of the time and the name has stuck ever since. The N.S.D.Q. I use for a signature stands for my unit. Night Stalkers Don't Quit. The nick name we earned in battle. N.S.D.Q.

Question about your name
|
When I first stumbled into Ebay I had to have some sort of password. Since they quizzed you about your main interests, I punched in Mauser (taken), Springfield (taken), Arisaka (taken) and finally tried "3006" followed by "guns" to make up the missing letters. My name is George and I live way up in the northern part of the People's Republic of Kalifornia....far from the urban nonsense!

Re: Question about your name

I'm "mauserman" in other chat forums but that was taken so I used my first name and date of birth, which I use in other computer related matters. I use mauserman in my other forums because that is the first rifle I bought when I started collecting WW2 era rifles and pistols.

hoplophile |
Re: Question about your name
|
Jeff Cooper used to refer to people who are afraid of guns as "Hoplophobes". I changed the last part to "Phile" which is someone who "likes" something.
In case anyone was wondering.......the word is derived from the ancient greek soldiers who were called "Hoplites", and they were so named because they carried a shield called a "Hopla". The term "Hoplo"-anything in our modern times has normally been used with regard to military or weapons references. So..............."Hoplophile" = "Gunlover". |
