Berdan primer source problem |
Lead | |
|
Attn: Doc Av and other interested memebers! I posted this at the tail end of the thread on Berdan primer removal experiments, but then decided it might get
more traffic on the Parallax page, and also it should really have it's own thread on this page so here it goes: What I am having trouble with, is locating
a regular source of Berdan primers. My stockpile of many years is getting rather low and I note that my original source from way back (The Old Western
Scrounger) is no longer handling them. I wonder if we put together a purchasing group, and went direct to one of the manufacturing sources (Norma, RWS, etc) if
perhaps we could get a significant deal on a large quantity? Anybody out there (like Doc Av) have any ideas about how to go about this sort of thing? I know if
the price was anything like reasonable I'd be good for several thousands, and if the price was actually good, (competitive with US boxer prices) I'd
likely be wanting 10's of thousands. Possibly if we could get our foot in the door, so to speak, we might even find a way to get bulk quantities of other
components or even loaded ammo, and help secure our own future in this fashion. Meanwhile, don't forget that Nov. 19th is Nat'l Ammo Day, so be sure to
buy some!!! What say all???

Gawd I just love this YUKU stuff. The lead in post, was originally done as 5 paragraphs, double spaced in between. Then when I saw it came out as a single
block of text, I immediately edited to make the individual paragraphs be discrete. With all that done, it's still just a single monolithic block of text.
Lovely!!!

I remember a discussion here about approaching Berdan primer manufacturers for direct buys. I recall is was a substantial number of primers and a great deal of
money.
Perhaps someone can fill in the details. |

wolf is importing primers maybe check with them... a group buy would be a good idea and would probably draw much interest
I would buy a good bit myself atleast 20k if the price was reasonable. If a well known retailer like Grafs of Midway or wideners would express intrest maybe they would be more likely to import. when I get this patent mess worked out there will be a new tool available to remove them which will be useless if theres no primers |

I've got a bad feeling we won't be seeing berdan primers in the near future.
Why provide the material (Berdan Primers) to keep the market from continuing to purchase high priced product (Factory Ammo)? People can speculate that the primers, brass and bullets are all going into military contract this or that, that the UN is buying it all up and destroying it, the Chicoms are grabbing everything else, etc.... I think it is just plain old greed and soaking up the cash from the American reloading/shooting public. Or maybe I'm just bitter about it all, basic components are priced locally to make it just marginally cheaper to reload, and now that I've figured out an easier way to reload Berdan primed cases and I can't find any primers aside from the ones I've got on hand.

wolf is already selling boxer primers in every flavor I called them a few weeks back and was told they were not planning on bringing any berdans in.my bet is
if the right person asked<$$$> they would bring some in.wolfs gold line is boxer primed brass case but the majority of their offerings are non reloadable
steel it would be unlikely to cut into their sales.I do agree about the greed there are alot of people that have figured out that they can charge ridiculous
and we will keep paying kinda like this m75 ammo priced at double + what it should be.I used to buy my powder from a local guy it was only about 3 bucks more
than say grafs but he caught on I refuse to pay 26.99+tax for a pound of 2400 now....these primers are another example brassman bought up the last of the pmc
.217 primers and was selling them for $50/1k!
I agree it does not look good right now but things can change.I am going to post on the GB group buy suggestion forum possibly if theres enough people interested it might catch someones eye |

I have been digging for some Berdan primers all thanks to a Hungarian M95, the surplus ammo has litteraly dried up. In the course of things I contacted PMC
directly apparently they went bankrupt but stayed in business, from the response I got maybe if we could get enough people to show interest they would start
importing more?
PMC has not imported Berdan Primers for over three years. We have not made a decision on what reloading products we will import for 2010. PMC sells product through authorized PMC Distributors. These distributors sell to stocking store front dealers. If you have a store please check with your distributors for PMC. If you do not have a store please check with your local sporting goods dealer. Thank you for your interest. Richard Henderson PMC Ammunition |
