I ended up getting a Portuguese Vergueiro mauser that they had on the rack - came down $49 from their price but I still paid a bit too much for it.
Anyhoo, it's bore is very good to excellent - the wood is good, the metal does have the usual pitting under the wood but nothing that would affect safe function. All of the exterior numbers match - bolt, receiver, and such - that and the bore kinda sold me on it - plus its a more "rare" varient.
Thanks to the guys that posted links to Surplus Rifle where I was able to get directions on dissasemly of the bolt - its a rather convoluted procedure - not the normal mauser method.
The action is very smooth and it came with a cleaning rod (shorty) which was corroded on the inside and a sling - which I'm not sure is correct for this rifle - is tied at the bottom with a leather thong (like an older Brit sling) and has a brass buckle. Looks good.
So, these are converted from 6.5mm - what's the consensus on ammo? I handload for 8x57 so no problem with that - but should I avoid milsurp (no Turk of course) - like Romanian steel case?
Couple of other questions for you guys - what would you value this at given my description? What is the correct bayo for this and any idea of a place to procure?
