I have an 1895 Chileno with some markings on the left butt. The rifle shows moderate use, but does have a matching bolt. The very top of the fore stock just below the bayo lug has a hole drilled through it as if for a rope sling or the like. I digress, back to the buttstock. Appearing in letters approx. 1/16th high is what appears to be LRRAZURIZ over the quarter inch number 91. I assume the number to be a rack/weapon number, but am clueless as the the lettering (though I am sure it adds greatly to the value of the rifle )). Errazuriz was also the las name of a Chilean President from the beginnings of the 20th century and also of a couple of different War & Navy Ministers; I'm not implying this could be their Mauser rifle, but probably the last name of someone who owned/used the gun sometime or the name given to a particular group of soldiers (Like a Battalion). Seems like an extended last name in Chile (Have heard it a few times; my wife is Chilean), not to the point of a "Smith" or "Jones" but above average.
