but after reassembling it is actually a bit stiffer than before (I
coated all the parts lightly with Ed's Red)...
It obviously needs some grease in the flutes & extractor
channel, what kind do you folks recommend?

What grease for M1895 bolt? |

I disassembled and cleaned up my new Austrian M95 bolt,
but after reassembling it is actually a bit stiffer than before (I coated all the parts lightly with Ed's Red)... It obviously needs some grease in the flutes & extractor channel, what kind do you folks recommend? |

FWIW I followed the advice of a guy here some years back and I use Imperial Sizing Wax.
This is what I use for any grease firearm application. Hope this helps, made my M95 alittle "slicker". |

Thanks tedly, will look for some of that. I tried some standard cartridge grease, it didn't seem to work as well as plain old oil.

Well sheep fat mixed with olive oil as used in the old days and that is no kidding but if you want to use something more modern try the black grease that is in
the containers that come with the Swiss Stgw57 cleaning kits, this so-called Automatenfett is like magic !

Automatenfett is what I now use on all my firearms where grease is called for. the only exception is the Garands, where they get the grease that comes in the
little yellow capped containers that fit the butt stock trap.

Anent the Automatenfett, I don't know what their grease base is, but isn't there graphite mixed in being what makes it black? I recall my dad always
kept a small tube of graphite grease in his(now my) gun box. There was always a small can of '3 in 1,' or maybe it was 'Liquid wrench,' oil
with graphite that he specifically used to put in outdoor pad locks to keep them working.
