Anyone know of any cute Turks I can take out for dinner and a movie.
Anyway, I have a 1903 Turk that was re-furbished in 1937 ( I guess the correct nomenclature is 'Model 03/38' ? ) I read that Mauser made them in Oberndorf between 1903 and 1905. Is there anyway to tell when the receiver was made?? I have not disassembled it yet --- Are there any date stamps under the wood?? THANKS, TOM |

I don't know, but I have a 1903 Turk that was rebuilt in 1937 too, and I'd love to know what the original manufacturing date was.

According to Military Mauser Rifles of the World, 4th ed. by Robert Ball, the M1903 rifles were made in two batches. The first contract was made from 1903 to
1909, and a much smaller contract in 1909 - 1910 produced M1903s with different receiver markings from the first contract. Olsen's book says that 200,000
were produced from 1903 to 1905, but I'm inclined to go with Ball's data. The first production batch had an Islamic date stamped in Arabic numerials
below the sultan's toughra on the receiver ring. Of course the markings were polished off when the rifles were rechambered and restamped in the 1930s. The
rifles delivered in 1909-10 have the Mauser name and address stamped on the receiver ring in standard capital letters, but this stamp is usually scrubbed too
as a result of the rechambering work..
