Odds are against you ever finding a replacement barrel for your Turk short rifle. Many turks like the majority of military rifles have pitted and worn barrels. If the rifle is incapable of shooting accurately or the bullets "keyhole" there may be a less intrusive way of fixing the problem called counterboring. Could you provide a better description of the condition of your bore and muzzle on this rifle? gil |

If it's a "smallring" you might be able to replace the barrel with a Swede 38 barrel.....I know of at least one guy to do this.
I'd get the gun marked as a 6.5 x 55 however. GREG |

First try shooting it. Lots of ugly inside barrels have decent accuracy.
Then if its bad and the muzzle rifling is worn from the cleaning rod try counterboring. Anyone with a drill press, even the little chinese countertop ones, can do it. All you need is a 3/8 in good quality bit and some motor oil. Clamp the barrelled receiver vertical so the drill bit swings over the exact center of the bore and drill in at low speed using some oil to lube and cool it. Make 1/4 in cuts until you hit good rifling. Only no-no is to not let it sit and rub on the bore without cutting as this just generates heat that'll burn the bit. Regular 45 degree bits are pretty much self centering. I've never had to go over 2 inches to get to good sharp rifling. If ALL the bore is worn make it a wallhanger and buy a better turk. Just installing and a better barrel will cost more than that. |

The K.Kale Mauser receivers aren't small ring receivers but the Turks used a small shank barrel which is the same as the 93 Mausers and the Swede 96. I
haven't heard of any parts being imported from Turkey and I haven't seen a K.Kale Short rifle barrel for sale ever so I would hold out hope of finding
one.

If you are going to counter bore, I would definitely recommend using a reamer, instead of a drill bitt, as a reamer is much better at "tracking" a
pre-existing hole than is a drill bitt, which will gladly wander off due to axial mis-alignment or poor initial centering, as will a reamer to a lesser degree.
Also I see no reason to go clear to 3/8" in counter boring, as I'd stick between 21/64ths and 11/32nds and would probably prefer a #Q or R diameter
reamer or piloted cutter. But custom ordering those start costing almost as much as the rifle, so unless you have many to divide the cost between, they
aren't very cost effective.
First, I'd keep trying to clean up the bore and trying different loads and projectiles to see if the gun will shoot okay with something. Next, if that doesn't help, I think I'd look into getting a rifle with a better bore! Just my $0.02 worth, good luck! |

+2 on shooting it first if you have not done so.I have one that has no rifling present at the muzzle yet will still shoot as well as 50 year old eyes may
expect. Will keep within a pie plate at 100 yards with suplus,Was going to be saved for the action but when I saw that those thoughts went away.

My Turked 98/22 seems lacking in muzzle rifling yet shoots great. I have very, very, very few guns that I've actually "put on paper". I think I
will set about correcting this ASAP. Perhaps as early as Monday.

I always wanted to try a Mauser Vergueiro barrel on a Turk receiver.
Sarco has then cheap and I believe it has the right length & contour. Not sure if the rear sight diameter is correct. |

The condition of the bore of my mauser is pretty bad there is little rifleing at the muzzle and it is rounded all the way through and not sharp but i can put rounds on paper tho if i get a 3 foot piece of cardboard it will shoot all over it i cant get a patern like i can with my yugo mauser the ammo that shoots most accuratly out of it is Yugo m75 sniper ammo. How far down do u think i would have to counterbore it? Ive put about 500-600 rounds through it just to see if i could compinsate for the inaccuracy ive had it for about 5 years. |

If you can see rifling within 2 inches or so of the muzzle you can counterbore it easily. Just make cuts with the bit until you can see sharp rifling all the
way around the hole.

Richard8120 has a good suggestion. These are only $50 and brand new. Another option is to recontour a M38 Turk barrel. These are plentiful, cheap and in many
cases pretty good condition. A gunsmith could turn and shorten it to match you rifles contours.
