Posts: 4060 Sep 15 08 11:20 AM Forum Site Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None I think I must have started moving the slide at the exact wrong moment hurrying up a follow up shot while trap shooting yesterday. OOB discharge. Blew off my extractor but no one was hurt at all. It did decomission the 870 for the rest of the shoot, though. The good news is that I was shooting with my buddy who's a gunsmith, so I simply left the gun with him and he'll take care of it. Be careful out there!

I use to shoot a 870 police in 3 gun competition (runnin' and gunnin'), makes me glad I was never too fast on the trigger! Glad everthing turned out ok with it. That's a nice thing about the 870's big, steel receiver. I'd hate to see what would have happened if that had been a Benelli Nova.

I was shooting doubles, and I somehow rushed to the second shot, and I must've pulled the trigger before it was fully and battery? In any event no harm no foul, my buddy fixed it for free, all in on the meeting was a little plunger that activates the extractor. I ran another hundred or 200 rounds through it the other day busting clays and loving life!

Posts: 2780 Feb 7 10 5:12 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It is possible if you're really quick and under the influence of adrenalin to start forend rearward at approximately the same time that you pull the trigger. Pulling the trigger allows the hammer fall to drop action bar lock which allows the action bars to move rearward. The window of time to have an out of battery discharge is extremely small....EXTREMELY small... If the angle between the action bar and the action bar lock is slightly negative this time window is exaccerbated and the action bar will tend to push the action bar lock out of the way. The cure for the ultra quick as yourself is to make sure there is a positve angle between the action bar and action bar lock, which will thwart those who attempt to outrun the hammer's drop of the action bar lock..the action bar will then tend to move the action bar lock to the locked and upward position until the hammer falls. You will find yourself having to "try again" on the forend.... I reckon' from time to time... kivaari
