Found one that the nose cap had the ears removed.
Is in very good shape otherwise.
Picked up a sling - dressed it up nice.

Swedenelson, I suspect it would be a real challenge to find the Kar 88 nose cap you need. I saw one on eBay several months ago and recall that it sold for well
above $100. I'm in the same boat as yourself having ended up with a mangled Kar 88 from the OWS inventory. The one I have is -- of course -- in sad shape
with a broken stock, missing bolt, and missing nose cap. Rather surprisingly, the rear sight (less slider) was intact. I'm not aware of any dealer that has
parts for these.
Your Kar 88 turned out well -- nice looking gun!! |

Thanks. I think you are right. Going to be hard to find. The nose cap on it is the original. Playing with the idea of building up the ears then machining. - Will see. Swede Nelson |

Swede, you will be WAY ahead if you rebuild the matching nosecap. Good luck on the project, that's a beautiful little carbine.

Can someone tell me: exactly which part is the nose cap? Frank Mason --30--

The nose cap can also be called the front band, it is right there at the muzzle. Many civilian owners of surplussed Kar88 filed off the ears (which were meant
to protect the front sight) and the only way to restore the matching front band/nose cap is to weld metal to the top of the cap and file to shape.

KAR 88 Nosepiece | ||

Here's the skinny...If anybody can come up with an ORIGINAL piece I can make arrangement to have replicas made from cast metal. I acquired repro cast Kar
71 nosepieces form a guy on ebay and contacted the maker about making '88 piece and he had had no problem. I would deveote mine but mine are either staked
or have deeply struck unit markings. Any volunteers?
I'll be glad to organise the whole affair |
