2a1 ejector question |
Lead | |
|
I have a new to me 7.62 ishapore (1966) that does not eject the rounds. I have tested with some dummys I made up and it does not seem to hold the round tight
against the bolt face. I expect that it should do so. If I remove the bolt and set a round in place on the bolt face there is a bit of wiggle between the
ejector edge and the cartridge rim. Is the cartridge supposed to strike something as the bolt is retracted to assist in the ejection process?
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Scott

There is a screw just below and ahead of the charger bridge on the left side of the receiver, this is the ejector. Since the head of the .308 brass is quite a
bit smaller in diameter than the rim on a .303 the extractor pushes the case up against the left wall of the receiver as it comes out of the chamber in order
to engage the ejector screw.
Looking at the bolt face the edge of the extractor should be about .050" from the edge of the striker hole. If your bolt head has the smaller .303 extractor it may not hold the case far enough over to engage the ejector. This is not a Mauser action, the extractor only needs to hook over the rim and pull the case out of the chamber.

2a1 ejector question | ||
|
brass rat,
Thank you very much for your reply. I noticed the screw on the left side and suspected that it may be just for that purpose. I tried to tighten it but it apperars to be bottomed out. I just tried to measure the distance suggested.. I'm getting .123 roughly. The screw mentioned does not really protrude at all. I will contact Numrich and see if I can get both parts. On another note can head space be verified by std 308 gauges? Scott |

I have 2 of them and with both you have to open the bolt rather smartly to get anything that can be described as "ejection" otherwise the case
ends up on top of the magazine as in the video below.
The 2A is on the top

This is great. Thank you for your effort.
I definitely have the set up on the left (1st picture). Numrich has both the extractor and ejector screw in stock so i will exercise my C&R and order both tomorrow. I greatly appreciate the help and will report back with the results. Best regards, Scott |

All you need is a new extractor spring and one for the .303 No.1 will work better, the ejector screw is only used for ejecting a live round.

My parts shipped yesterday so I'll have an update shortly.

I was led to believe that the .308 Ishapore used the mag. for the ejector, the .303's use the little screw for ejectoring.

Which ever they use it doesn't work very well.

2a1 extractor | ||

Parts arrived from Numrich today. I just switched them out. Extractor is much better and holds onto the case now. The ejector screw didn't change much at
all. I did notice after swapping the extractor that it has a little bit of free movement before it touches the spring. Is this correct or should the spring be
hard up against it?

Replace your extractor spring and get a new SMLE No.1 extractor spring (not a 2A1extractor spring)
(One more time) The extractor spring controls ejection, the ejector screw is to make sure a loaded round is ejected.
Memorize the following: The extractor spring controls ejection not the ejector screw. |
