Accesories and replacement parts for #4Mk1* |
Lead | |
|
I posted the question regarding a #4Mk1*. Now that I have the gun, I would like to get a correct sling and oiler/pull thru for the rifle. Possibly a new
buttstock.
Any suggestions for a place to get any these items? Thanks. |

You might check on Ebay. A few years ago there were a lot of slings and oilers for sale. Good prices then, and a chance to get a sling dated to match the
rifle.

IMA has the accessories. For buttstock, either Gun Parts of Springfield Sporter. Sportsman's Guide used to have sets of new-made replacement wood furniture
for the #4, I don't know if they still have any left...?

I'll recommend Brian Dick, BDL LTD. You can email him to ask questions and he'll follow through.

I've dealt with Brian before and he's hard to beat. Knows his stuff, fair prices, and A LOT of parts.
Good recommendation Ed.

Willing to search his inventory and get back to questor. One of the traditional "beefs" about BDL has been the fact that his prices tend, possibly, to be higher than those of the big-name dealers but I can honestly say that I've never, ever needed to return anything to Brian because it was not what I wanted. There is definitely everything positive to be said for this kind of service. With those things said, I suppose that I need to add the disclaimer that I have no financial/personal interest in Brian's endeavors (I've been accused of being TOO enthusiastic in previous postings about BDL). |

Accesries and replacement parts for #4Mk1* | ||

I tried Brian Dick's but he did not have the parts I was looking for. I found a parade sling and broken shell extractor at IMA. A caution or note. Check
both the IMA website as well as their printed (downloadable) catalog. I could have gotten a sling, oiler, dust cover, pullthru, and 5 stripper clips for $35.
That would be only $10 more than I paid for the sling and extractor. The 5 for one price offer was only in the printed catalog, not even mentioned in the
online catalog. Several items were not even listed in the online version, i.e. dust cover. On the good side IMA shipped my order with in one day. I also
ordered a sight protector from APEX. They have yet to ship the item. I do not recomend them.
OK, now for some more questions. One: Does the #9 bowie bayonet fit (was it used on?) the #4Mk1* rifle? Two: Where can I get replacement front sights for this rifle? I have a +.045. I have not sighted it in yet but IF I need to get a new one for proper sighting where would I get one? I could not find one. I was able to find different bolt heads, but not new front sights. Three: Did #4Mk1*'s come with brass buttplates? Mine is aluminum. I found new ones from Apex, but did not know if they were proper on this variant rifle. Four: Did all #4Mk1*'s come with stacking rods attached to the forend cap retainer? Five: I purchased a parade sling b/c it was in better shape than the other slings offered, but it was white. I was thinking about staining the white one with a strong coffee sloution to stain it tan/brown, like the issue slings. What does anyone think? Now, for the good stuff. I took pictures of the rifle and accesories I have so far. Enjoy!!! Please note that everything except the bolt and the bayonet sheath are marked with a Square S for Savage, including the magazine and follower, front sight blade, and Bayonet. The Bayonet sheeath is marked N64 and W in a circle (Any idea who made this?) and made of aluminum, w/ a steel ball on the tip. I do not know where the bolt came from. The Bolt head is a 1. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Numrich at e-gunparts.com is a good place for parts too,
N64 is Sheffield Steel Products . The stacking rod is more of a Turkish thing but it's quite likely they've seen use anywhere. I know of 2 No9 bayo's, made in Pakistan and with Canadian Longbranch serial numbers , so anything goes with bayo's.

I was able to shoot the rifle. It shot 3.5" high at 25 yds. with the micrometer sight set at 200 yds. According to Jay Currah's Lee Enfield site at
25yds the point of mean impact (PMI)should be .75" .5", with the 200 yd micrometer sight. So at 3.5" high @ 25ydsI would need to add
.100" to the front sight????? However, Also according the same site, using the 300yd battle sight, PMI should be 2" high at 25yds. The 300 yds
battle sight shot, at 3.25" high at 25yds. That figures out need a .0475" sight increase. I have a .045" sight so the closest sight would be
+.090. I looked At Numrich. All they offer is a sight blade for a #5 carbine. There is no reference to blade height. Any other suggestions to find a +.090
front sight?
Numrich, IMA, and Apex all have #9 bowie bayonets, I guess I'll have to give one a try. Buyer beware I guess. Talk about Heinz 57 a Savage bayonet in Sheffield sheath. I will have to try Brian Dick for the front sight blades. Thanks for the help. |

thats a fine rifle , the turk stacking rod can be removed , and as its a no4 and they didnt have stacking swivels simply reset the screw to put it back into
original nick ,
i agree with getting the buttstock accoutraments , im rather fond of these bits as well , and a decent sling , |

Try Springfield Sporters for your parts needs: http://www.ssporters.com
If your question on the "Bowie" bayonet refers to the No 9 8" Blade bayo: Yes it will fit. |

Thanks to every one for all of their help. I appreciate the compliments, the old girl is blushing as I type. I am looking forward to getting the right sights
so I can shoot it. I was able to find a +.090 from Brian Dick Ltd. Great place. Neat stuff.
I found a practical use for a spike bayonet. Stick it on the gun, then stick it in the ground. This holds the gun upright so, if you use corrosive ammo, it makes it easier to pour boiling water down the bore(with the aid of a funnel) to clean out the corrosive potasium salts. Always remeber to clean and oil the gun throroughly after doing so. But this makes cleanup a breeze. And I like shooting lots of cheap ammo! Unfortunately it usually corrosive. Now there is a use other than roasting weenies for my bayonet. I have not had the need to repel a bayonet charge lately. I am trying figure out how to stuff an oiler, a Hoppes Bore Snake and a broken shell extractor in the little hole in the but. I have not figured it yet bit I think the right combo will work. I 'll keep everyone updated with the progress. I think these are the minumum to take into the field and that should fit in the gun. Once again, Thanks and God Bless!

bambam91 wrote:FWIW, there was (is?) a gentleman from eastern Canada who sold/sells genuine Enfield galvanized funnels - he seemed to have an endless supply of them for sale on EBay. Nice article to have for its historic value; a "flat side" on the funnel and a bent tube to allow the funnel tube to be inserted into the chamber and the funnel to be positioned upright and close to the receiver. Every LE holder in my family has one for his/her use - yeah, the kids thought I'd gone bonkers when I sent these to them all those years ago but they've all used them. In the past, people used the cheap spike bayonets for very efficient tent-pegs. Yes, Brian is a very nice person to deal with; a truly "stand-up guy".

when you get all the tiny bits you might want to get the funnel - just for fun of coarse , except that it works quite well for cleaning if you shoot vintage
nmilsurp ammo too

I don't know how much of a difference it makes on point of impact but the rear sight on your rifle is for the No.5. You may want to get the micrometer
sight for a No.4 before you decide what front sight you need.
