Posts: 185 (11/18/08 12:48 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None any of you find a mil/surp in the most unlikely place and found it for sale??? mine was about 6 years ago, i was out a local used car lot, having just bought a 1985 Suburban C25. after finishing my business i turned to leave. i spotted a French Berthier standing in the corner of the office. i asked the man if i could look at it. its a St. Einnes 1907/15 3 shot good condition but very dirty; old grease and dust. so i asked if he wanted to sell it...he said make an offer. so i said $100 he said sold!!!. he also said he took it as partial payment on the sales taxes for another car he sold. i finally got one, been wanting one for years, never found one and the internet pieces were way out on prices. so i get it home and showing it to the wife and my daughters, giving a little info about it. the top of the butt stock had a dark stain that ran vertically down the side in finger drips. beiing of quick wit i pointed out the stains, i told them it was the blood from some poor French soldier that probably died holding it!!! man the looks i got were priceless...hee hee hee hee

Found a Ljungman looking rifle at one of the tables. Asked "how much"? Reply: $125.00 SOLD! It turned out to be an Egyptian Hakim in really nice shape. Best deal E V E R!!! I'm sorry to say that it was one of the guns I had to sell to make rent after an unexpected layoff in 2001. Wish I still had that one...

Posts: 282 (11/18/08 09:10 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	back in 2002, I dropped by a co-worker's house to drop off his paycheck this was before those automatic bank deposits that many enjoy today any way, he had a rifle sitting in a corner of his living room turned out to be a Tula 1951 SKS, and rather minty looking after looking it over, I asked him to let me know if he ever wanted to part with 'er he said how about $80, and he'd throw in a correct sling, ammo pouch, and cleaning kit and about 60 rds. of 7.62x39 he'd just picked up a modern hunting rifle of sorts, and didn't need this for the woodland critters the only time that I was in the right place, at the right time, with the cash in hand Bob

Huntsville isn't the end of the earth, but you can see it from there. The big event one weekend was doing my laundry at the local laundromat. The next wekend I checked out the gun stores and antique shops. I was in Paul's Pistol Parlor; they had about a jillion shotguns. Must be shotguns only for deer hunting. I was looking thru a display case of broken Lorcins at the back of the store while at the front, silhouetted against the plate glass window the guy behind the counter was talking to an old friend. I heard him say; "Wanna see Kaiser Bill's pistol" and handed it to his friend. I wasn't much interested in European revolvers, but when the customer cocked it and the mainspring guide rod stood out the front of the frame, the hair went up on the back of my neck. After he had left, I asked to see it. It was a solid frame Mauser Zig-Zag, and they made very few of them. To shorten the story I bought it for $85, you could put the decomal point over a couple of places to get near the true value. When i got it home and tried to clean it, it had another surprise: a 44 rod wouldn't go down the barrel. It was a 9mm, the only 9mm solid frame Zig-Zag I've everheard of, serial number 4. Another co-worker said he had a "Civil War Rifle" he'd seel me. Not Civil War but an M1888 45-70, excellent shape, reasonale price. My favorite find was in a place you'd expect them. I stopped by Sarcon on December 26, 1997, there, waiting in the racks for me, was an M1896 Krag at a good price.

He called me up and said he had a old "army" gun someone brought in. Turned out to be a Jap type 99 in real nice shape. The mum is ground but the metal and bluing are great and it has the dust cover and wings. Bore is great. I think I paid 35-40 bucks for it.

Also a Swiss Schmidt Rubin Model 11 circa 1918 at a local gunshow for $90 in great condition. Oh, yeah, and the Chinese security forces SKS for $100, and Spanish FR8 for $125 at a second hand store in a small town. The owner was thinning out his gun safe. Come to think of it, I've been in the right place at the right time on several occasions.

He said he didn't know but he's sell it to me. I said how much and went home with it for a mere $25. It was a Spanish 1916 converted to 308. He didnt know nor care what it was just the 50.00 bucks I had. It now is back to org config. I did get a Bufflo Bill Win94 from a cust one day, he knew I liked guns and wanted me to have it. I didnt know at the time he was very sick, and didnt have a family member to take it.Was a good guy. Wont be sell that one. Doug.

This other guy's father had died and the guy didn't know anything about price, so wanted a formal appraisal. There was a KG 99, a small Bauer .25, a 1934 Mauser, and I don't remember what else. I looked at and cleaned the pistols and gave him a professional written appraisel. My neighbor asked if I wanted any of them and I replied that I kind of liked the Mauser, but I couldn't afford it at the time. He asked me what I could pay and I said "$25.00." He said that the other fella had already told him he would accept that. I said "It's worth much more than that." Guy didn't want to take the time to sell them. I pulled out the $25.00 and walked home very happy. I played with and fired that gun for some years before it "lost it's shine." I sold it to a collector in Texas that collects former German Police pistols. Oh yea, didn't I mention that? It was marked as "Property of Hamburg Police Dept." I did pretty good on that deal.
