I've seen the second one before, actually the original newspaper clipping of it. The picture was taken at the Klamath Falls, Or. train depot. The display
was for a presidential candidate of the time that was arriving at the depot while campaigning. I believe it was Wilke, or maybe even Wilson. I don't
remember the fine details, but do remember the train was late, it was a hot year and all the deer spoiled.

Around here, toting a deer on your back would get you shot during deer season.
Look Pa, a deer walking on two legs.... Those are great photos of a time in history I think I would've enjoyed had I been one of the affluent/wealthy/powerful people that got to go on hunts like that!

Very cool. The amazing thing is that they killed all of those animals and none of them used a .300 Mashemflat Magnum with 180 grain Piledriver bullets. Just
careful shot placement with what they had.

If you look close at the rifles used, a couple of them looked like Mod 81 Remington autoloaders. I think they were chambered in 30 rem, 35 rem and 300
savage. Fine woods guns back in the day and prized collector items today.

matm0702 wrote: That and Model 1905 Winchesters. Apparently the bears back then didn't know that you needed at least a .375 magnum to kill him and neither did the hunters. Can anyone identify the car in the second photo?

Who said it was a Winchester 1905 that killed the bear (.351 WSL)? Could well have been a Model 1910 in .401 WSL, which Winchester was advertising as the
perfect bear medicine at the time. You can't tell from the Pix.
And the Remingtons could, and most likely, are, Model 8s, instead of 81s. The Model 8 came in .30 Rem., 32 Rem. and 35 Rem. I collect old Remington pump and autoloading rifles. I'm just starting to get into the old Winchester WSLs, but they're getting a little pricy these days. |

Saw on of those semi auto .300 Savages! I almost bought one last year about this time.

It's a great bunch of pics to be sure, of a time when you could still step back away from it all and escape to the deep wood without heading to Alaska or
Canada but it's also sort of sad in a way. I see the guy so proud with the eagle and those boys with their string of deer and I can't help but think of
market hunters and poachers, a generational thing I guess. I can not help but envy them their days in the field and at the same time, I get $&$^ed off when
I think of the waste and greed that still demonizes hunters generations latter.
Something extra nice about the pics is there isn't a bit of camo to be seen anywhere, in fact it looks like street cloths in some cases and lots of great boots. When was the last time you headed out wearing tie and kept it on while stalking a buck or black bear? Has anyone any more pics like these to share?
