It is an Oberndorf Modelo Espanol serial A4400, all matching save for the missing cleaning rod. Not much left of the finish except flashes on the carrier and on the underside of the barrel band tangs. The stock has a few dings and scratches, but nothing awful, and a faint cartouche. The bore is dull but there (I'm not familiar with these... looked at a mint later model Chilean, and the rifling looked about the same.) Mine for $299. Thought it might keep my 96 Krag and 1888 Trapdoor company. Did I do reasonably well? I notice that the bolt release latch (that rectangular bit on the left rail) seems to have a somewhat tired spring... does this need fixing before any attempt to fire the rifle? The release spring should not be an issue.As far as I know it was not desinged to be a safety lug. If it bothers you it should be an easy part to replace from one of the parts houses like Springfields Sporters,Sarco or Gunparts.

You did well for $299. I think that Numrich & Springfield Sporters carry the cleaning-rods. The weak bolt-release spring will not affect safety in firing the rifle, however it also serves to keep the ejector properly in place, so the empties might not get kicked out. If this happens, you'll need to manually remove them. Spanish Mausers are notorious for excess headspace, but yours being German-made, is far less likely. German-made Spanish Mausers appear with some frequency, so availability is not an issue. On a national level, its the same. If you feel inclined to compete for these rifles in nationally-advertised auctions, you can find 4-6 a year easily...if 2008 is any indication. Condition however, is often the biggest problem. Even more to the point regarding your rifle, you have a rare one to say the least. In the past 15-20 years, I can recall seeing only 3-4 Spanish Mausers made at Oberndorf. All others were made in Berlin at the Ludwig Loewe factory or in Liege by FN. To find an Oberndorf-marked rifle in matching condition with its stock cartouche is indeed a stroke of good luck. Regarding parts, as Bean says, '93 rods and small parts are available at several sources like Springfield Sporters and Numrich. The hard part will be matching small parts inspection marks. Also, check your rear sight slider. Spanish 93's made in Germany were produced with a slider which has a catch on both sides. These sliders did not do well in field use, so the Spanish redesigned the slider and replaced many with what you might call the "Oviedo slider". This is a very robust ands beefy piece of metal with is latched in place by pressing a single chunky push button. When I find one of these on a German-made '93, I replace it with the Mauser Loewe original slider which you can find at parts dealers as well. Congratulations on a super buy! Posts: 53 (01/13/09 11:47 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Took a look at the sight slide... has catches on both sides, one side (right?)has a half-round bit that tips up out of the bar when you press down on the outer edge. The sight base is numbered to the gun. Had occasion to take the rifle to a somewhat snowy range the other weekend. Fired ten rounds (spent most time supervising my ten year old's first outing... with 22 LRs) of Privi 7mm out to 100 yards, both off-hand and from the bench. Very pleasant to shoot. By chance, a fellow several stations over was nailing gongs off-hand at 200 yards with a very nice Modelo Chileno. Victor "Always carry a firearm east of Aldgate, Watson."
