My two turks |
Lead | |
|
I bought these two on a 5 for purchase from SOG a couple years ago, sold the other ones, but kept these two. The first one is the one I posted in the serial
number survey, its an all matching K Kale from 1942, it was well worn on the metal work, or it just faded, as the blue was near gone, but the bore appeared as
new and metal itself were nice and smooth. I regret now that I lightly blasted and blued it, but I more wanted to protect it than anything else, since its a
keeper. I might do it to a military polish over the winter while working on customer guns to blue. The other is just as it came in its even still grease
packed, the only mistmatch part is the bolt, the rest is all matching. I just cleared the bore of its grease this AM and its nice and bright, seems almost new
as well, the muzzle is very tight on both guns. The restored one will shoot about 1 inch groups on good yugo ammo.

people sometimes rush to make a milsurp rifle look better and later regret it. I have done some minor stock refinishing in the past only to regret it later,

I was more worried about it rusting, as it had a very little starting on it, and the blue was near gone, so I went over it to keep it protected until I can do
it right. I plan to do a full restore on the metal work, with a military style polish, and hot blue. I assume the turks were hot blued, not rust blued by the
40s, but if anyone would know otherwise let me know, as I can do a rust blue on it instead. I am a full service gunsmith, but the old mausers are my own pets,
so I get to work on them in my own time. I like to get them back to full military look, but preserved for the future when I can especially the ones like this
one that intend to keep. I love to work on these old ladies and restoring them with vintage methods is a challenge and blast at the same time, I so love the
look of oiled wood, done with straight tung oil and loving care.
