Clint Eastwood's GARAND Torino |
Lead | |
|
Watching the tv today, I saw a trailer for the new Eastwood movie "Gran Torino" and noticed that it showed Eastwood facing off with a group of gang
bangers on his front lawn with an M1 Garand. Eastwood and Garand, looks like vintage at its best!

It's to early to tell what Clint's trying to say?? The movies not out around here, you know Charles Bronson made a bunch the them gang banger movies in
the 70's.

You know Charles Bronson made a bunch the them gang banger movies in the 70's. Yes he did, and other than the first one, they were pretty poor. While I've been a Charles Bronson fan for years, these were by far his worst movies. His best? IMHO it would be "Once Upon A Time in the West." One of my favorite all time movies. Henry Fonda? Playing a very, very, bad, bad man? Priceless. As for "Gran Torino," I don't think I've even seen T.V. commercials for it yet. Clint is good. I'll watch any of his movies. Except for "The Bridges of Madison County." That one, naw, nope, don't think so. Eric

Just got through watching Gran Torino. In many ways it plays on the old Eastwood stereotypes to excess. In some ways it evokes some of the later stuff, which
I don't care for. I have to give the movie credit for a decent storyline, some good characterizations, and I really have to admit I couldn't call the
climactic scene until seconds before it happened. Good ending, guys.

I saw it last night and thought it was really excellent in many ways. So totally unPC that it's hard to imagine that it could even be considered for the
screen today. Also holds alot of truth which I suppose also qualifies as not being PC in this day and age.
I actually knew a Korean War Veteran that was every bit the character Eastwood played in this movie! I'd watch it again, even knowing the ending!!! |

I am going to watch it again this weekend. I think I may look at it a bit differently knowing the ending now.

Just saw the DVD of this movie. It is a good film and I will be watching it again. Was expecting a formula ending and was fooled by this one (and liked
it
).
Highly recommend it to all who haven't seen it. It's not for the kiddies though.

OK, I watched it last week and I'll be the contrary one. The acting was horrible, the plot hackneyed, the directing terrible. Where did they come up with
the D list actors who mechanically read their lines with little feeling? The plot was one big cliche' and I think Clint was bad too. Sorry boys but
that's how it struck me.

I've seen bits and pieced of it but plan to view the whole thing soon. I also heard the acting was terrible but Clint was passable for his age.

There were very few real actors in this movie. Clint went with a mostly amateur or unknown cast, not unlike how BoB was filmed. I thought it worked pretty
well.
In my view, Clint was sending himself up in the way he used the many cliches of his earlier movies, and the movie's ending, which some didn't like, was actually pretty original, and unexpected. Tom

I liked it immensely.
It brings to mind Luke 10:27-37, wherein one of the Pharisees asks "Who is my neighbor?".

Watched this one last night, and loved it! I knew Clint's character was going to end up in a coffin one way or another, but didn't expect what
happened.
Guess I'm really unPC, but my favorite parts of the film were Clint's racist rants, and his boiling over anger against his family. The scenes with him sitting on the porch were priceless. I busted up laughing every time. Reminded me of an ex-girlfriends dad, a dead on match. We got to learn who inherited Clint's house and car, but what about the M1 and 1911!!!!!!!!!!
