Posts: 13 (01/02/09 05:35 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None hi, i am new to the CETME Family.. been doing some reading about them i picked one up the other day for a friend that had it hanging on the wall for some time now.. i guess i got around $500.00 in it now i cleaned it up ... inspected it looks fine even the wood , its a C28xxx modle w / battle barrel bore was bright and clean, i havent seen a lot if any markings on internal parts .................................................................................................................. wow that thing is fun to shoot and has a good group for iron sights@ 70 yards it never jammed or any strange stuff , i gues i am Blessed with a good one so the way i see it the HK is a Clone of a CETME ..........the CETME is what it is...Battle Rifle

The roller-type bolts don't head space in the traditional sense - they use a bolt gap reading as opposed to a head space reading to make sure things are kosher. Here's a photo of my CETME with the bolt locked in battery and the mag removed (viewed from the mag well) You can see the slight gap between the backside of the bolt head and the front side of the bolt head carrier. The gap should be between .004 inches at an absolute minimum and .019 inches at an absolute maximum. A bolt gap in the range of .015-.016 inches is considered ideal, but I keep mine at around .010 inches and it works flawlessly. (You'll need a set of feeler gauges - they're available from pretty much any hardware store if you don't happen to have a set handy.) The Century built rifles have had their problems. Some are obvious (canted front sights, misaligned cocking tubes) but there are other, more serious (i.e. potentially very dangerous) issues that aren't as obvious to the casual observer - problems related to incorrect bolt gap. Ground bolt heads are the biggest of those issues (the drunk monkeys at Century ground down the back of many bolt heads to get them into spec, but since they were measuring headspace incorrectly this action only caused more issues), but you can also run into problems with worn down locking pieces, worn trunnions, worn rollers, etc. Here's mine: I bought this one from SOG about 6 years ago. The bolt gap was way off, even when using +4 rollers, due to the trunnion being worn out. I ended up sending it off to Jayson at IGF for a barrel repressing (to compensate for the worn trunnion) and the rifle now has a proper bolt gap. If I hadn't known about this, the rifle would likely have destroyed itself - the improper bolt gap was causing a timing issue. I.e. the bolt was unlocking too early, which was sending the bolt/carrier flying rearwards with too much force. The inertia of the carrier slamming into the recoil plate had enough force to make the rollers come slamming out of the bolt head and into the sides of the receiver. Perro was one of the oringial CETME enthusiasts and he ended up selling his forum/info to the new owners who then revamped everything into the new forums linked to above. There is a ton of info in that forum. I highly suggest that you visit it, read and view all of the info available, and then make sure your CETME is in spec before shooting it too much. They're great rifles once the kinks are worked out. I've not paid too much attention to CETMEs in the last 4-5 years (ever since mine got fixed up), so perhaps the newer rifles aren't as prone to problems.
