1903 ex-sniper? |

Did the Springfield armoury ever re-arsenal a shot out 1903 sniper rifle and turn it into a standard 1903 model with new WW11 dated barrel? I took a look at a
WWII rearsenaled 1903 that had been drilled and tapped but then filled. Just trying to figure out if this was a restored bubba or legit rearsenaled rifle.
Does anyone have any tips on what to look for on a 1903.

I have to assume you are referring to a rifle that is drilled on the top of the receiver. It is highly unlikely that any US arsenal would refurbuish any such
rifle. They just replaced the "damaged" receivers with new. The only exception to this is the refurbishment of WW1 sniper rifles that had two holes
drilled on the side of the receiver. They did plug the holes and then stake the screws on the inside of the receiver rail. I have one such rifle.

Thanks musketshooter for the reply. The holes are on the side and it looks like there are four of them. |

Yes they did...picked one out of the pile of Greek returns at CMP and handed it to a friend of mine... low#, '44 rebarrel and plugged up Warney Swasey
screw holes.
