When did the finger grooves start disappearing from the M1903 stock? Does anyone know about when that change occurred? I surfed the 'net for a bit but couldn't find this bit of trivia. I'm just curious 'cause it gives me a better idea of how old the stock is on my recently acquired '03. Thanks, Matt

However, they had BALES of stock blanks that couldn't be worked into Type C stocks, so only a relative few M1903s were fitted with Type Cs. GG stocks continued to be used on the majority of pre-WWII M1903s until the end of WWII. Naturally, most Remington M1903s and M1903A3s used the "straight" non-GG stocks, as-built.
