Upon further inspection it was a yugoslavian rework. It's in absolutely pristine shape. The walnut stock is to die for. Then I look at the tag and see it's cheaper than I've seen any K98 ever!!! Even RC k98's!!! I absoultely could NOT let it get away. So I ended up paying $200 OTD for this: (Just look at the grain!) Whaddya think? (Especially you nothernug ) -Palimino

That hand guard is even nicely matched color wise. That grain is sweet, my old Yugo 98 had a nice laminated stock on it.

The second re-enforcing lug behind the receiver has me wondering.....weren't K98s that were used for grenade launching modified that way???

Posts: 1 (01/16/09 09:41 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I'm not sure about that aspect, but mine, which has a laminated stock with a tiny hairline crack in the stock just behind the receiver, has the extra lug in nearly the same spot. I understand that these extra lugs were added to reclaim a stock that may have a slight crack or may have started to de-laminate. Discussing this on a different site, I was told that people have seen as many as 4 extra lugs in one stock in various places. Mighty fine looking piece Palimino Stripe, looks like an unissued import. Very similar to mine, except you have the nicer stock. Good catch ! old one

Sorry but this is the first chance I've had to wait for my dial up to bring down the pics. A Yugo 98 OTD for $200 is a great deal under any circumstances. This example is a fantastic find! Brand 'new' deep blue but that wood! You know me all right. A nice stock will catch my eye quick. That one is gorgeous! Post some side rail marks and I can tell you a little more. That's a Kragujevac crest, one used from the beginning, I know that much. Hey Old one. Howdy and welcome to Parallax Bill's site and our forum! In any case, the side rail mark confirms Kragujevac and the rifle was done between Sept. 1947 and 1950. The Latin script denotes a rifle intended for export. There. Howzat? Posts: 4 (01/20/09 03:12 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	The info I posted on the extra stock lugs came from some members on gunboards, which in my case of a stock with a hairline crack, would hold true as far as reclaiming them. I have also read, either here or gunboards posts, that the Yugo's tried to keep these rifles together as much as possible, only replacing any missing or damaged parts. That's great, because you've got a pretty much complete original K 98. It just has Yugo markings instead of German. Much better than a mixmaster RC. Thanks, Old one

One thing we can say is its an original German stock the Yugo replacement stocks dont have the takedown washer..It does appear to have been sanded , were any of the cartouches still visable? $200 was a great deal on an awesome looking K98 congrats!
